There are two ways to interpret another great piece of research from the National Housing Federation and its partners. One could say ‘of course the government isn’t going to reach its target’ - the other is to focus on bullet point 2: the gap can be met by funding affordable housing. This is where chasing numbers and meeting need can actually work together… so the question is: will government fund a pathway to growth through an affordable housing programme that addresses real housing need, the economy, and ultimately the growth mission?
Our new research with Home Builders Federation and Savills in The Times today shows: ?? The government will miss its 1.5 million homes target by 500k homes without sufficient funding and policy intervention. ?? The only way to plug this gap and build the homes we desperately need is through funding for affordable homes and social housing. ?? The Times: https://lnkd.in/e6Zq7isP

1 个月The key question is how the target can be met, what needs to be done to achieve it and then to provide the political will to make it happen. We focus too much on the dry mechanics of housing what is needed is more passion and fire. Old as I am I only read about this but one of the reasons Nye Bevan resigned from the Attlee cabinet was a proposal to reduce the size of council homes. Would such a thing happen today.
