Drones for commercial purposes don't necessarily need to look good. They just have to do their job. The unmanned systems I discover today are both technically impressive and damn good-looking. Attending the Faszination Modellbau show in Friedrichshafen means joining a great community of highly enthusiastic people flying their model planes for fun and enjoying a technically challenging hobby. Last but not least, model airplanes are an important player in the lower airspace. So it's important to understand their demands and challenges and have them in mind when shaping a framework for UAS. A short demonstration of an octree-based movement system I developed for flying enemies. The main function being to allow for complex movement patterns like flying between tight gaps and over / under obstacles. Each element in the octree is flagged as traversable or intraversable and this information is used to create paths for the flying enemy to follow. The line in the video being the path this drone followed to reach its destination!

Why is the #VoloCity multicopter design ideal for urban missions? Last week’s flight test footage shows our VoloCity flying and rotating in a tight turn radius at low speeds. This capability is unique to small rotorcraft, especially multicopters with high hovering stability. Maneuvering in an urban environment requires eVTOLs to be nimble, stable, and safe to avoid infrastructure obstacles along the flight path and perform precise takeoff and landing in the tighter confines of a small vertiport or clearing. In the world of drone training, competition can be a double-edged sword. While it helps consumer pilots improve their skills by pushing them out of their comfort zones, we've found that for enterprise and utility pilots, it often introduces unnecessary stress. Navigating complex environments is already challenging enough without the added pressure of competitive performance. Interestingly, our data shows only a 20-second delta in obstacle course completion times between pilots who compete and those who don't. This suggests that while competition might sharpen reflexes, it doesn't significantly impact the ability to tackle real-world challenges.
