Together with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency and UEFA, we are proud to support the #UnityEuroCup. Kicking off today, the unique seven-a-side tournament features 16 amateur teams including 180 boys and girls, and 50 support staff from refugee and host communities, competing in 33 matches held in Nyom, Switzerland. The need to raise awareness of the impact of children and young people living within vulnerable communities has never been greater. According to the UNHCR, there are currently more than 117 million forcibly displaced people globally with an estimated 40 per cent aged below 18 years of age. The Unity Euro Cup was founded by the UNHCR and UEFA in 2021 through a shared mission to strengthen the social cohesion and peaceful coexistence of communities. The tournament will enhance social inclusion through football while showcasing the power of sport in uniting communities.

Nike gets it right every ????single ???? time ????! This is major in a world where inclusion is important and representation are so important, this Nike partnership with the Olympic Refugee team is so significant, for a number of reasons. According to UNHCR, after the Global Refugee forum, an estimated 130 million people in 2024 are expected to be stateless or forcibly displaced. This is a frightening number. It’s hard to comprehend the reality of becoming stateless through no fault of your own and having no real sense of belonging, and sometimes being treated as less than in host nations. Just the level of bravery to face each day takes so much heart. That’s why when the IOC (International Olympic Committee) first formed the Refugee Olympic Team in 2016, it was such an important step in allowing stateless people to be seen , involved and celebrated in sporting activities And it’s the most natural fit because sport, much like music breaks invisible barriers and is a natural unifier. Seeing Nike collaborate with Olympic Refuge Foundation to help displaced people find community and a sense of belonging is admirable to say the least. 36 athletes from 11 different countries will compete as part of this team, covering athletes from the Americas, Asia and Africa. This new campaign is fire! ?? But that’s in the DNA of Nike Communications, Inc. Nike As the world changes, it’s important for brands to recognise the shifts and acclimatise and Nike does this everytime! Meanwhile I can’t wait to watch this team compete in the Summer Olympics, and I can’t wait to get to know more about the incredible athletes part of the Olympic Refugee team, I trust new stars will be unveiled. Special recognition to Kemi Benjamin (He/Him/His) for leading a brand that is focused on people. #OlympicRefugeeTeam #2024SummerOlympics #Nike #SheSpeaksAfrica #SportsAndCommunity
Watch where the Refugee Olympic Team is going. ?? ? We are continuing to collaborate with Nike, who are providing uniforms for the IOC Refugee Olympic Team and supporting the refugee community in Paris through our Terrains d'Avenir programme. This comprehensive sport for inclusion initiative in Ile-de France now includes female only sport sessions, empowering young women affected by displacement through sports. ??? ? EPW Engage | When two countries compete in a game, supporters of each team cheer for their respective country. But what if the player lacks a country? Or perhaps the player is representing a country that is not their own; rather, that country has granted asylum. That country's refugee may be the player. Or if a team (made up of refugees from all over the world) that does not have a country and thus no flag is participating in an international event? This argumentative article takes into account the cases of refugees in various national teams as well as the recent development of a “refugee team” in international sports tournaments to address the issue of growing migration and statelessness. https://lnkd.in/gkdG96w6

The comment you provided expresses strong encouragement and support for athletes competing at the Paris 2024 Olympics, particularly focusing on those who are refugees, supported by the UNHCR. Here's a breakdown: 1. Positive and Empowering Tone: The message begins with an uplifting note ("You've got the talent and determination to make history"), boosting the confidence of the athletes and emphasizing their potential for success. 2. Support from the UNHCR: Mentioning the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) supporters highlights a broader community cheering for the refugee athletes, reinforcing solidarity and inclusion. 3. Hashtags (#Paris2024, #CheerForRefugees) These tags tie the message to the event (Paris 2024 Olympics) and a cause (supporting refugee athletes), making it visible and relatable to both sports enthusiasts and humanitarian supporters. To be the first comment, here’s a slightly refined version: Team at #Paris2024! Your talent and determination will make history. ?? The UNHCR supporters are standing behind you, cheering you on every step of the way. Let's bring it home! #CheerForRefugees #Paris2024"
Celebrating the incredible Refugee Paralympic Team at #Paris2024! You've got the talent and determination to make history. ?? And guess who's rooting for you? UNHCR supporters are cheering you on every step of the way. Let’s do this! #CheerForRefugees

My own #grit and #resilence is a function of being a granddaughter and daughter of refugees. I realize that we did not use that word about ourselves, given the stigma associated with it, but when you leave the home your family lived in for centuries under threat of violence, you are a refugee. “People who are forced to flee their homes often face challenges in nurturing such dreams. Their paths to success are constantly impeded by obstacles both physical and societal. Women and girls especially find themselves more often underestimated and constrained by norms, and as a result are less able to dream.” Those of refugee experience understand well that those who talk of “#belonging” or “#vulnerability” are naive (even arguably, ignorant) to harsh realities of how humans treat fellow humans. If it were safe to feel belonging and to be vulnerable there would be no refugees at all. Despite seeing the most ugly side of human nature, I find that those in refugee communities can be the most kind, generous, humble, hard-working, appreciative. There is no entitlement but a knowledge of needing to build a new life and establish a new home. If women who are “legitimate” in a culture or country have it hard, then you can only imagine how much harder it is for women who are told “you don’t belong here” based on race, ethnicity, religion, tribe, etc.
“Refugees deserve to dream just like everyone else.” ?? Imagine fleeing your home, leaving everything behind, only to find solace and joy in the game of football. In an exclusive essay for GLAMOUR, British footballer Lucy Bronze reflects on how societal attitudes to refugee women and girls must change. Lucy recently met with young refugee girls, whose stories are filled with resilience, friendship, and the limitless possibilities that football brings. Together with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, BAR?A FOUNDATION is empowering displaced women and girls worldwide through sports. Read their inspiring testimonials and discover how you can join Lucy in supporting this initiative. https://lnkd.in/etZxAPph
