? Thrilled to Announce My Certification in Technology Roadmapping from MIT! ??? Completing this program has been a game-changer in my professional journey, equipping me with a scientifically grounded framework for technological and business decision-making. This approach not only helps industries achieve their goals but also identifies the drivers and capabilities that will sustain their growth. ?? Why this framework is essential: Data-Driven Decisions: Aligning metrics, technologies, and strategies to meet objectives. Visualizing Evolution: Mapping how technologies progress over time based on different metrics of merit. Strategic Impact: Estimating when and how technologies (individually or in combination) can drive defensive, disruptive, or follow-up strategies, depending on business priorities. This methodology has profoundly influenced my perspective. By applying these tools, I aim to create meaningful, tangible contributions to business strategies, leveraging technology as a differentiator for growth and innovation. ?? A heartfelt thanks to Prof. Olivier de Weck and Edwin Elmendorp for their invaluable guidance, insightful recommendations, and for sharing experiences that highlight the importance of structured technology roadmapping. ?? The Future Starts with a Roadmap: Let’s embrace the power of structured frameworks to build a better tomorrow, one decision at a time. #TechnologyRoadmapping #MIT #Innovation #BusinessStrategy #Leadership Clara Piloto Ed.M

LEARNING ORGANISATION - SPOTLIGHT SERIES #7. Systems Thinking @ MIT xPRO ? MIT xPRO is the online learning arm of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). MIT’s mission is to develop technical professionals across disciplines. MIT xPRO’s objectives are to make learning accessible and help professionals with their skill building needs as well as build their leadership acumen. To this extent, the audience they cater-to is fairly wide. While MIT xPRO’s range of courses is vast, one of their key offerings is a course on #SystemsThinking. MIT is the birthplace of the discipline of #SystemDynamics and this is the central approach to systems thinking that is taught here. The course is a 5-week, online program and it has a distinct leaning towards the world of business and technology, to the realm of #products and #organisation but also cover broader aspects such as #family and #life. The course is application oriented and the examples taught are across multiple disciplines. These include #transportation, #logistics, #healthcare, #medicine, #environment and #energy policy. MIT Sloan just issued the official certificate. Yay. It is an interesting virtual course with weekly assignments and chat forums for shared learning. I do think the chat forums were underutilized. Their asynchronous nature meant comments came in randomly, most just before the due dates. For those of you who have been involved in transformations, it offers a formal framework that gives you a stronger vocabulary to support doing those things you know the organization needs to do. For those of you who have never worked in Digital Transformation, it gives you a solid framework.

?? Exciting Milestone Achieved! ?? I am thrilled to share that I have successfully completed the first course stackable towards MIT’s certification program in Strategic Roadmapping and Technology Innovations. This first course, Technology Roadmapping and Development, was an incredible deep dive into applying quantitative frameworks for effective technology management and long-term planning. 3 key takeaways (of many) for me from this technology roadmapping course: 1. From a technology innovation management framework perspective, ideally we will have organizational functions to perform technology scouting, roadmapping, planning, and project execution to transform technology into viable products or services. And all these functions are a cross functional efforts involving both tech and business units to achieve the organizational mission. 2. In order to quantify technological progress, we need figures of merits (FOMs), which could be a combination of carefully curated business and technical measures. Example of a technical FOM to measure innovation progress for semiconductor chip is the transistor count on a chip, and example of a business oriented FOM could be the capital or operating expenses to adopt the technology. 3. Finally in a comprehensive technology roadmap there should be a portfolio view of the mapping of key technologies to products or services (and projects that realize the tech into the end products or services to meet the requirements of a mission / use case). And this portfolio view will drive what technology should the organization invest in to achieve their goals. A special thank you to our exceptional course mentor, Karim Shalash, for his insightful teaching, thought-provoking wisdom, and practical rules of thumb for developing effective technology roadmaps. Your guidance has been truly inspiring and instrumental in my learning journey. As I move into the next course of the program on Technology Strategy and Portfolio Analysis , I’m eager to build on this foundation, exploring new dimensions of innovation management and technology forecasting. #MITProfessionalEducation #StrategicRoadmapping #TechnologyInnovation #LifelongLearning #LeadershipInTech
