As always, we need to be able to evaluate what vulnerabilities the terrorists took advantage of and apply that knowledge to our own lives: In the future, if you are in crowded places, think to yourself, "What could a terrorist do at this location?" Then you evaluate where it's best to place yourself, where you would move, and what your reaction would be if the worst-case scenario occurred. Crowded places and celebratory events are ALWAYS going to make you more vulnerable, but thinking through it operationally will empower you to plan ways to GET OFF THE X in advance of an ambush. #neworleansattack #trumptower #teslaexplosion

On Saturday, July 13, Thomas Matthew Crooks shot former U.S. President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania. ? Fortunately, the would-be assassin’s bullet merely grazed the Republican front-runner’s ear, resulting in a nonfatal outcome. The same cannot be said for Corey Comperatore, who needlessly died in the crossfire. It’s important to note that a more thorough perimeter check ahead of time might have prevented this altogether. While anti-sniper units were dispersed throughout the grounds, eyewitnesses suggest that members of the crowd had flagged the shooter nearly four whole minutes before any shots went off. Other reports say an officer went to confront the shooter but fell from the building before engaging. Executive protection is a hard business. But it's also a business where perfection is paramount. Placing a higher priority on Prevention rather than reactionary response is a sound strategy, especially when resources are scarce. A sound Threat/Risk Assessment and Analysis process identifying the greatest and most likely threats and risks works. 100% security is not possible. Therefore, high ground with plain views of a target, such as the recent assassination attempt, close proximity to the target, where the would be assassin hid for 12 hours, 40 feet away from the target, should be through sound assessment and analysis, identified and high priority given to those obvious threats and risks and mitigated, first and foremost. This provides the best use of light resources and higher level of security based on sound physical/personnel and information Threat/Risk Assessment.
