Hurricane season starts today, June 1st, and runs until November 30th - and the 2024 season is expected to have above-normal activity. Make sure you are ready for any scenario - have both an evacuation plan and a shelter-in-place plan! If you are told to evacuate and you CAN evacuate, please do. I totally believe that you are tough! ....I also totally believe that a hurricane is tougher! (For my Floridians specifically: refusing to evacuate does not make you a "real Floridian," but it COULD make you a dead one. Seriously). For sheltering in place, remember: "the first 72 is on you" - depending on the severity of a storm, there is NO GUARANTEE that first responders will be able to help you in the first 3 days. Be prepared! Have enough food and water for you, your family, and your pets for at least 3 days. For more information on what to include in your hurricane preparedness kit, check out FEMA and FDEM's resources! Anyway, once you have all that figured out, go out and enjoy yourself!! Go have a hot girl summer!! Just make sure it's also a prepared girl summer :)

The Atlantic Hurricane Season starts in June, which means May is the month for many emergency management and disaster response organizations to finalize their preparations. A few thoughts: - Review your plans and consider the purpose of planning. Planning is critical not for the purpose of anticipating and prescribing solutions to every possible problem, but rather to create a shared understanding from which to deviate from. - Re-read your After Action Reports. Anecdotal, but most AARs are combed through immediately after they're published and then they go into the file or onto the shelf. If you have access to an AAR that's been written in the past few years, now is the time to read it. - Check in on your relationship with stress. Take a moment to think about who you lean on. Think about who might lean on you. Take care of yourself. Take care of each other. #HurricaneSeason #EmergencyManagement #DisasterManagement #FirstResponders
