Happy to announce our paper, "Space Cybersecurity Testbed: Fidelity Framework, Example Implementation, and Characterization" has been accepted for publication and presentation at the 2025 Workshop on the Security of Space and Satellite Systems (SpaceSec) during the Network and Distributed System Security (NDSS) Symposium. The paper proposes a framework for characterizing the fidelity of space cybersecurity testbeds that includes characterizing system models, threat models, and defenses. We use the framework to build and characterize a concrete space testbed that is useful for personnel training and systems security testing. #cybersecurity #space #testbeds

Fellow cybersecurity profreshionals/enthusiasts, I've got a tale to tell that'll make you appreciate the importance of our work. During DEFCON 32, I embarked on an epic challange with IntelliGenesis LLC's CTF challenge - Catpure the Flag Your mission, should you choose to accept it... As part of this simulated mission, I had to: Recover the correct Linux boot pathway (because, you know, airport controler rely's to be able to login to the system to control the runway signals) Decode and neutralize encoded communications between the victim (the airport) and its attacker Test the recovery and create a current backup (because we can't afford any downtime, folks!) Harden the network to prevent future attacks (because, let's face it, airports are a juicy target) And here's the best part - I had to do all this without disrupting or re-hauling the system entirely. No pressure! The whole lab is setup in this black case which, I hope to see this lab at more cybersecurity confrences also schools that specialize in building automation. Guided by Fahad Malik, students gained firsthand experience creating PCAP files, mastering display filters, and distinguishing vital network traffic from noise. Students learned about advanced hacking groups like Polonium and discovered IoCs and mitigation strategies. A huge thanks to our partners at Thales and the Cyberbit platform for bringing this opportunity to life. This class on Cybersecurity for Space Systems was excellent, and I feel like I learned a ton. Space Systems can really be thought of as OT Systems in Space, a lot of the principals and attack vectors are very similar. Big shout out to Tim Fowler for teaching this course.

I'm excited to share that I've just completed the "Intro to LAN" module on TryHackMe, where I gained hands-on experience with: ? LAN Topologies: Explored star, bus, and ring configurations, understanding their unique structures and applications. ? Subnetting: Learned to divide networks into efficient subnets, enhancing security and management. ? Address Resolution Protocol (ARP): Studied how devices map IP addresses to MAC addresses to facilitate communication. ? Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP): Understood the automated assignment of IP addresses within networks. This training has strengthened my networking fundamentals, preparing me for more advanced cybersecurity challenges.
