And the other side, they say it's not the document but the people in power. Ignoring it, just a lack of democracy, plain and simple. OK, so where do we even begin unpacking this? Well, one source uses this phrase subjugator subjugated narrative. And that really jumped out at me. It's not just disagreements. It's this deep fear that the constitution reinforces a power dynamic from Ethiopia's imperial past. Like certain groups always benefit at the expense of others, right? That historical baggage carries a lot of weight. And it's not just history either. The regional borders, they're supposed to be administrative. But this source is worried they're being manipulated, like trying to build a sandcastle with someone kicking sand in your face. Not exactly stable, right? And that's where this idea of ethnic federalism comes in, right? Yeah. Yeah. It raises the question, is it the structure of the Constitution or how it's being used? That's the root cause. It makes you think about the stakes of any changes, right? There's sky high. Absolutely. Amending a constitution is always complex, but in Ethiopia, active conflict, deep mistrust, It's like trying to do heart surgery on a marathon runner mid race. And everyone's got a different diagnosis. You've got the Amhara, historically powerful. Now they want a stronger central government, maybe even less autonomy for the regions. How do you even begin to untangle? It's the classic clash between national interest and self determination. Yeah. And it's not even as simple as Amhara versus Oromo. Hmm. Within those groups, you have tons of smaller factions, each with their own wants and fears. It's not just about lines on a map. It's like this tangled ball of yarn, and every thread is someone's demands. And some sources are saying a bad amendment could actually make the violence worse. That's terrifying. What would that even look like? Imagine this. The government pushes through changes seen as favoring one group. Or some regions feel their autonomy is threatened. That's a recipe for disaster.
