??EnerNex is excited to attend the IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting and EMTP? International User Conference?? Here’s a deep dive into the presentation that Muhammad Humayun is presenting at EMTP:? ? ?? Sustained Overvoltage due to Zero Sequence Resonance for Shunt Compensated #Transmission Lines, 7/26, 11:00AM-11:40AM.? ??? Shunt compensation reactors, used in long AC transmission lines, mitigate overvoltages from capacitive charging under light loads. However, they can cause operational challenges like sustained overvoltages due to zero sequence resonance in unbalanced conditions, often from circuit breaker malfunctions causing one- or two-phase disconnections. This resonance occurs between shunt reactors and phase capacitance in disconnected phases, potentially damaging equipment. Muhammad’s presentation will cover:? ? Zero Sequence Resonance: Background and resulting overvoltages.? ? Case Study: Example from a large US wind project.? ? EMTP Simulations: Investigating resonance in shunt compensated lines.? ? Mitigation Measures: Including neutral grounding reactors and protection schemes.? ? #EnergyManagement #DemandResponse #EnerNex #RenewableEnergy #EMTP #IEEEPES #PowerEngineering?

Illustrative case study! ?? Regarding the resistive option using fifteen 5000 kcmil copper cables per circuit, it should be noticed that the temperature distribution of the conductors in operation leads to a thermal stress on the middle cable of the lower layer, that acts as a bottleneck of the current rating. Adjacent cables of the upper layer would be much less heated and may appear as oversized. Interesting potential application of the IEC 60287-1-3 standard (involving a complex impedance matrix) to check the effective currents in the conductors and metal sheaths of the cable (each of them depending on the temperature of the metal component). The cable engineer must pay attention to the phase arrangement of the cables, to avoid the risk of unbalanced currents. The case study is much more than a thermal study! A benefit of the superconducting alternative. ? Poke Collin Edwards, Darin Lawton, PE, Arnaud ALLAIS, Nicolas LALLOUET.
? Superconductivity: The Future of Energy Transmission and bringing Energy at lower cost ? Imagine a world where electricity flows with *zero resistance*—that’s the power of superconductivity! This cutting-edge technology is not only transforming energy transmission by reducing power losses but, in some cases, it's proving to be more cost-effective than conventional cables . ???? By eliminating energy waste and lowering long-term costs, superconductors offer a cleaner, more efficient alternative for powering our future. Burns & McDonnell has presented during the CIGRE 2024 a Paper based on a US Case demonstrating the Superconductivity HTS Cable system brings 48% savings to the Utility client vs HV 230 kV conventional XLPE underground transmission cables in congested areas. ?? Discover the amazing potential of superconductivity and how it’s shaping tomorrow’s infrastructure today and above all in congested areas! thanks to Collin Edwards and Darin Lawton, PE for the quality and detailed paper demonstrating the benefits of the HTS Cable systems in congested areas and above all when requiring HDD installation! #Superconductivity #EnergyRevolution #CleanEnergy #TechInnovation #EfficientPower #FutureOfEnergy #HTS #advancedconductors #transmission #IGTs

Power electronics researcher at AECP | Code Generation | Energy storage systems | Control systems for railway applications | Microgrid control
I am happy to share that our article "Priority-Based DC-Link Voltage Control for Railway Traction Chains With Onboard Energy Storage" has been published in IEEE Open Journal of Industry Applications (I.F = 7.9). This article proposes a new dc-link voltage control method for a train with onboard energy storage system. The method allows smooth transitions between different modes of operation.
