Tonight, I'm en route to Ottawa for a few days of local business engagements, and this video could not have been more timely in capturing the absurdity of my train journey (VIA Rail Canada is entertainingly discussed in the second half of the video). Ironically, it was posted just 12 hours before I began what was supposed to be a 4-hour trip, now going on 6+ hours, waiting for three freight trains, a full-on detour *around* Scarborough and at one point actually going backwards for half-a-kilometre! I've always been a strong advocate for train travel for business trips, especially between the triangle of Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal. Back in my leadership days for global companies on national accounts, I did the math: door-to-door, taking the train (with a hotel stay) was more time- and cost-efficient than a same-day round-trip flight. You also gain the benefit of meaningful (un-rushed) engagement with local teams and the obvious environmental advantages of not driving or flying. Plus, trains actually offer the chance to get real work done with elbow space. But with experiences like this, it’s hard not to feel disappointed. We can, and should, do better. As the title implies, it is worse. https://lnkd.in/gQTyagSn

Richard Florida talked about economic corridors in his book The Great Reset ?? The fact that we have not solved or accelerated Regional or local (municipal) transit post pandemic in Toronto or the provinces is laughable! It is hampering our businesses and costing our local economy millions if not billions. I write this after struggling with my morning commute (again) with subway delays! What is our municipal, provincial and federal government doing about this Eric? https://www.google.ca/search?q=the+great+reset+richard+florida

1 个月I feel your pain. Was on a train going backwards for almost 1/2 hour … started to get really concerned but most people who took the train regularly just shrugged. It’s very unfortunate that we just have not prioritized train travel.
