The Ministry of Energy published today the clarifications to the #ModernizationFundGuide for electricity production through RES projects. Very helpful and addressing many of the industry concerns!

“The German government has announced plans to hold tenders for 5.5GW of new #hydrogen-ready gas-fired power plants and 2GW of “comprehensive H2-ready modernisations” of existing gas power stations at the end of this year or the “beginning of 2025”.

Federal Minister for Energy, Awais Leghari, at the National Youth Convention, highlighted Pakistan’s actual power generation capacity as 29,000 MW—not 45,000 MW. The Council today formally adopted the recommendation that encourages member states to continue reducing their gas consumption until 31 March 2025, by at least 15% compared to their average gas consumption in the period from 1 April 2017 to 31 March 2022. This recommendation will help member states to take adequate supply security measures until the transposition of the directives on energy efficiency and renewables in 2025. Both directives will bring structural demand reduction in the near future, while achieving EU’s decarbonisation goals.

Very blunt and straightforward assessment. It surprises me that the BESS study was even proposed. A few comments, 500 kV transmission lines have to be built in order to charge the 800 MW (4 hours) BESS. This is supposed to replace 2,000 MW of base load capacity. It will also need 2,000 MVAR of support capacity, but doesn't define from where? The link to the PJM study is in the article, worth reading. IRA and BIL laws require build in America, this is not addressed. Nevermind the cost. So simply put, they want to build out the BESS and charge is from outside of Maryland, probably from a natural gas plant in Virginia. This is exactly what California is doing, bragging about their renewable capability, but not mentioning that they are the largest importer of electricity from Arizona. #hydrogen #Germany Do you know that the total volatile generation capacity in #Germany amounts to 142,5 GW? And to balance this capacity Germany will need new #hydrogen power plants. The picture below from Handelsblatt illustrates primarily volatile electricity generation in Germany. As stated in the recent article of Handelsblatt via this link https://lnkd.in/eJh6bFpF , the German government has agreed on a compromise over the construction of new #H2 power plants and in particularly: ?? gas-fired power plants with a total capacity of up to 10 GW are to be put out to tender; ?? ?the first tenders are to take place in the second half of 2024 and a new electricity market design is also to be developed. ? Some main points: ?? The power plants will initially be operated with natural gas but between 2035 and 2040 they will be converted to run on #hydrogen. ?? ?The targeted 10 GW of power plant capacity corresponds to around 20 large gas-fired power plant units. ?? The subsidies for the power plants would be financed from the Climate and Transformation Fund. ?? 15 to 20 billion euros are estimated for the costs of the power plant strategy. ?? The first investment cost subsidies are likely to be due in 2028 at the earliest when construction of the first plants begins and the first operating cost subsidies will be due from around 2035 with the switch to hydrogen operation.

"Natural Gas" power plants are supposed to be clean burning, but they are anything but clean. The first OGI video I recorded of a methane gas-fired power plant was in?2016 at this Wartzila state-of-the-art best natural gas power plant in south Texas.?https://lnkd.in/gnigEiyF There was so much invisible pollution that I was unsure so I sent it to my OGI instructor. He said, "That can't be a natural gas power plant because they are clean burning." I had to send him permitting documents then he wrote back that the video showed a dense plume of VOCs and particulate traveling far from the combustion source. He was in total dismay. Since then I've recorded intense invisible plumes from these so-called clean-burning plants many times.
