????[1/5: Why “Just Follow Your Passion” Isn’t Enough]???? People aren’t trying to sabotage you when they tell you to “follow your passion.” Promise. But it’s just way too surface-level to be in any way useful in finding the work that absolutely lights you up. Here’s the thing... ?It’s not actually about what your passion ????. ??????’?? ?????????? ???????? ?????????? ?????? ???? ???????? ??????????????, ???????? ??????????????????, ???????? ?????????? ?????? ?????????????? ???????? ?????? ????. I grew up playing sports. It was my world. I was an athlete. So, when I took the advice “just follow your passion and you’ll find success,” I figured my love of sports on the playing surface would translate perfectly to a love of a career in sports. Nope. Because I never reflected on ?????? I loved sports. It wasn’t the entertainment factor or the business. I loved sports because it pushes people out of their comfort zone and forces them to develop into their full potential. Try this... Ask yourself why you’re drawn to your passion. Then why again. And again. And again. And then once more. ...Keep going until you can’t come up with anything deeper. That’s your “passion.” Follow it.?? #careers #jobs #humblehighperformers
I did this same exercise when I was completely stuck in my career. It went something like this… I love sports… …because of the thrill of competition and winning …there’s so much hard work and commitment required behind the scenes that make winning feel amazing …an athlete or team can set a big, crazy goal and then work their butts off and surround themselves with people to support them and push them toward their goal …sports push us to strive for something bigger than ourselves ….sports allow us to own and develop into our full potential as humans

5 年Great advice, Erin! The five (or more) why’s exercise can be so powerful. I’ve seen people moved to tears, in a good, life-affirming way when the get to the core reason.
