As #TeacherAppreciationWeek comes to an end, let’s reflect back on all the important work teachers do. Working in the education space, in The States and abroad, has opened my eyes to another layer of sacrifice, attention to detail, and patience that goes into nourishing young minds. I now call the teachers that taught me growing up my peers, but I still have new things to learn from them every day. Remember that behind all of you, despite your respective fields, there is a teacher/mentor/educator of some capacity that showed you the ropes to get you to where you are. So here’s to those teachers, that they may continue to lay the foundation for shaping future leaders and change-makers. Here’s to my peers that are patient with me when sharing their knowledge. Here’s to cultivating a generation of high EQ-ed individuals, who feel seen because they had a teacher in their corner. Teachers are the backbone of society!

?? The power of connection..... Today, I had the most beautiful conversation with a former student who is now almost in middle school. We talked about leadership, gifts, and using them for good. He shared one of his favorite Jane Goodall quotes with me: “Only if we understand, will we care. Only if we care, will we help. Only if we help, shall all be saved.” His wisdom and kind soul left me in awe, and I have no doubt he will make a difference in the world. This moment reminded me of the impact I’ve had on students by truly seeing them and supporting them so they could thrive. It also made me reflect on something deeper: Dear educators, this is an important reminder that we are not just teachers or educators. We are human connectors; connecting students to themselves, their potential, and the world around them. We are also agents of impact. In today’s early childhood education landscape, it’s clear that unique experiences and connections cannot be standardized. This highlights the need for individualized approaches that honor each child’s specific needs. Weak quality assurance systems also emphasize the urgency for strong support structures that prioritize nurturing relationships. Let’s continue to nurture these connections, creating ripples that shape a brighter future for our children and society as a whole. ?? ??

My unpopular opinion in print form: using the college rankings appropriately in the college search and readiness process. College rankings are not going away and instead, learning how to use them correctly and efficiently can create a lot of value. Really excited to see a class paper come alive as a book chapter in the "Issues and Trends in International School Leadership" book, set to be published this month! It includes a guide of how to use college rankings to a student's, counselor's, and school's benefit....ideas that I have slowly been cultivating and implementing the past 10 years. Abstract in the comments. https://lnkd.in/g4bwPuHT

“Those closest to the problem are closest to the solution.” At Teach For All, we know that real change begins with those who have lived through the challenges we seek to solve. The 2024 Leading from Lived Experience Fellowship brought together 39 leaders from 23 countries from across our network—all with personal experiences of inequity—to strengthen their leadership and explore healing through shared reflection. By centering lived experience, we uncover insights that reveal the root causes of systemic inequities and inspire transformative solutions. This fellowship created spaces for vulnerability, connection, and growth—empowering these leaders to drive real change in their communities and beyond. ?? Watch the video to hear firsthand why centering lived experience is key to achieving educational equity:
