From October 30 to November 3, our SHPE ERAU chapter proudly attended the SHPE National Convention in Anaheim, California. With a group of 67 members, 50 of whom were sponsored, we made a strong impression at the largest gathering of Hispanic STEM talent in the country.? The convention provided invaluable opportunities to connect with industry leaders, participate in technical sessions, and showcase the exceptional talent within our chapter. Many of our members secured interviews, and several walked away with internship and job offers, a testament to the hard work, dedication, and support within our SHPE familia.? This success wouldn’t have been possible without the outstanding leadership and coordination of our e-board. Thank you for all your hard work in making this experience such a memorable one for our members. We are incredibly proud of our members and grateful for the sponsors, mentors, and companies who supported our journey. We can’t wait to build on this momentum and bring an even stronger presence to next year’s SHPE National Convention! #ERAU #SHPE #SHPERegion7 #SHPENationalConvention2024 #SHPEFamilia

September 20th is #WhyApply Day in Tennessee! One of my top reasons for choosing APSU - community. Professors, mentors, and peers helped push me to excel in many ways. I had opportunities to showcase my work and knowledge in research competitions, and an on-campus internship. These connections have turned into life-long friends. At APSU, there’s someone who will help you achieve your dreams and goals. #LetsGoPeay ???? #CollegeApplicationandExplorationMonth

We are thrilled to share that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has awarded Boston University $935,000 to support students completing internships and field placements in behavioral health. This funding enables BU to offer financial support to students across a number of programs at the University, including social work – providing greatly needed aid to students completing field internships at BUSSW, which is a signature part of a social work education. We are thankful for this support from the Commonwealth as we continue our work to reduce barriers to entry for prospective and current students at BUSSW. Dean Jones said, “At BUSSW we have been working diligently to find multiple funding sources in scholarships and stipends to support our students and we are grateful to the Commonwealth for this important funding.” BU leadership is determining how the funding will be distributed across programs and students, and we will share more information as soon as it is available.?In the meantime, students can contact the BUSSW Recruitment team at [email protected] with any questions.

This week’s #AlumniThenAndNow, we are highlighting Nogosa Atekha a graduate from the Berkshire School’s class of 2021! Currently, Nogosa is an intern at William Blair! ??What was DMSF’s impact on you? ?? Receiving the DMSF scholarship changed my life in ways I can't even describe. The overall knowledge from experiencing an entirely different racial environment, and socioeconomic environment was extremely insightful. The opportunity to live on my own was beneficial, and the opportunity to play competitive sports in a prep league was also beneficial, as I am now an NCAA collegiate Track & Field athlete. The skills I learned in the summer bridge program for overall interaction with adults and sending emails are skills I still use to this day. The biggest benefit from the DMSF scholarship has been the alumni network with networking and connection opportunities. DMSF does a great job with putting alums in good networking environments, as Mr. Nick Cross provides us with webinars for internship opportunities at firms with strong DMSF representation. Finally, DMSF has a multitude of resources if needed in order to improve your overall health and happiness. ??For you, what does it mean to be a Murphy Scholar? ??Being a Murphy Scholar means to not only be a leader, but to be an academic weapon and to build good connections with those within and outside of your comfort zones. ??What advice do you have for current Murphy Scholars? ?? I would advise to connect with people outside of your comfort zone more. Networking and connections hold more weight than I had ever thought. Thanks for sharing and encouraging us to step out of our comfort zone, Nogosa! #35YearsOfMurphyScholars #AlumniThen&Now #HighSchoolScholarship #EducationAccess

In 2023, we achieved this by providing training, mentorship, fellowships, internships, public lectures, and seminars to institutions, CSOs, and individuals. Building Bridges: Enhancing Career Pathways for Youth through SYEPs and Labor Market Insights Summer Youth Employment Programs (SYEPs) are essential for enhancing career pathways and fostering economic mobility among young people nationwide. Following an examination of 26 SYEP models by MDRC, a set of best practices has emerged to strengthen these programs in their efforts to help youth secure quality jobs. This webinar highlights one key practice: using local labor market data to effectively engage employers and create valuable opportunities for youth. Labor market data is crucial for shaping work readiness curricula, forming industry partnerships, and building employer relationships that align with market demands and pathways to quality employment. Join CTE experts and SYEP providers for a discussion moderated by JPMorganChase on creating internships and job opportunities that connect youth with thriving industry sectors that can help set up the next generation for long-term success.
