Equitrans’ 2024 Sustainability Report provides comprehensive GHG performance data, as of year-end 2023, and a summary of our 2023 Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) scenario analyses. Importantly, Equitrans’ 2024 Sustainability Report was designed to convey my deep appreciation to each and every employee who has contributed to the growth and progress of E-Train’s sustainability program during the past few years. As with most things in our Company, when tasked with a challenge – our employees jumped in with arms wide open and put forth tremendous effort, which resulted in progress that far exceeded our expectations. As noted in our 2024 Sustainability Report, Equitrans’ employees were the central factor in driving and achieving our sustainability progress. We adopted sustainability as a tenet of our culture of safe operations and as a component of our social license to operate – and we should all be proud of what we have accomplished, consistently working together as OneTeam.

We are committed to being responsible and excellent environmental stewards and are focused on continuing to make progress reducing greenhouse gas emissions in our own operations and value chain. In line with our sustainability strategy, we are pushing ourselves to meet our sustainability targets while aiming to make a positive impact across our end-to-end supply chain. There is abundance of sustainability jargon existing within corporate sustainability goals. Beyond this, a number of frameworks and guidance exist on how to achieve these goals, making it difficult at times to know how to proceed. ???With a lot of attention around climate claims (like the EU Green Claims Act and more) it is important to understand the differences and make an informed decision for your sustainability strategy. Both ‘carbon neutral’ and ‘net zero’ are related concepts about balancing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere with the amount removed. But, there are some nuanced differences between the two. Where does carbon removal fit into these claims? Consider these takeaways from supranational frameworks like SBTi: 1???Whether you are striving for a carbon neutral or net zero target, high-quality carbon removal is a credible choice to tackle residual emissions. 2???The use of high-quality carbon removal at the same time as reductions is the key to meeting our climate goals. Circular economy can play a key role in climate change mitigation. However, this is not fully reflected in national climate reporting, in part due to its cross-sectoral nature and the (current) challenges of quantifying its impacts. Better integration of circular economy into climate reporting can help uncover key mitigation potentials and provide a more comprehensive account of actions that countires are already taking on climate mitigation. Highlights from the briefing include: ?? 6% of climate policies reported by European countries incl. CE policies. ?? 3% of greenhouse gasses are accounted for by the waste sector but better use of waste as a resoruce can help reduce emissions in other sectors. ? challenges to including CE actions in climate reporting, incl. cross-sectorial nature of CE, cross-border mitigation potential and the potential of rebound effects. ?? together with countires, we developed a 6 steps guideline on how to include the circular economy into climate change mitigation reporting and policymaking. The European Environment Agency (EEA) has published a briefing, highlighting the significant climate change mitigation benefits associated with circular economy and waste sector policies. ??Waste management and circular economy actions play a huge role in reducing the need for new materials and cutting down on greenhouse gas emissions. But here's the kicker: current European policies might not be connecting climate neutrality and circularity enough. That's where we come in! ?? ??EuRIC has already highlighted this important gap, stressing the need for a more integrated approach, calling for a Green Industrial Deal 2.0, which will use economic incentives to drive the investments needed to achieve the EU's twin transition. ??The aim is to enhance consistency across various EU legislations related to resource-efficiency, climate, and chemicals.
