Three decades ago, world leaders made a groundbreaking declaration, recognizing sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights as human rights. The Political Declaration adopted at the 57th session of the Commission on Population and Development is a step fowards. The inclusion of 'human rights for all', 'gender equality', and 'the empowerment of all women and girls' in the Political Declaration is a poignant reminder of what demands immediate attention. We urge Member States to act now, emphasizing accountability and impact for women, adolescents, and girls in all their diversity.

THE LINK BETWEEN THE INTERNATION WOMEN'S DAY THEME "INVEST IN WOMEN: ACCELERATE PROGRESS" AND REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS Today women celebrated the international women's day under the Theme : Invest in Women: Accelerate growth. This Theme underscores the importance of empowering women to advance social and economic progress. Reproductive rights are an essential component of women's empowerment as they encompass the freedom to make choices regarding one's own Reproductive health and wellness. When women are empowered they are able to make better decision about their sexual health which may include access to birth control, care for mothers and other information about all aspects of sexual Reproductive health. By priotising women empowerment, society can tackle barriers that restrict women's ability to exercise their Reproductive Rights and have control over decision making. Women who are empowered are likely to support and defend their reproductive rights, speak out against unfair practices and help make society more fair and welcoming for everyone. This year's IWD theme highlights the significance connection between reproductive rights and investing in women such as promoting gender equality and gauranteeing access to comprehensive reproductive rights. Society can move faster towards a more fair and inclusive world where women have freedom to make choices about their bodies and Reproductive futures if it recognizes the link between women empowerment and Reproductive rights. #iwd2024womenleadingtheway #Reproductiverights#

Social Behavior Change and Sexual Reproductive Health Rights Sexual and reproductive health is fundamental to individuals, couples, and families, and to the social and economic development of communities and nations. So too, access to safe abortions is a critical aspect of reproductive health and rights, and it plays a significant role in reducing maternal mortality and morbidity. In my independent opinion, I believe there is a strong relationship between social behavior change and access to safe abortions. The connection is that both are essential components of promoting women's health and well-being. In this regard, by changing social norms and behaviors surrounding reproductive health, societies can work towards reducing the stigma associated with abortion and increasing the acceptance of women's reproductive rights. Similarly, I believe that education and awareness campaigns play a crucial role in driving social behavior change related to safe abortions. By providing accurate information and dispelling myths and misconceptions, these campaigns can help to change attitudes and behaviors towards abortion. Additionally, community engagement and involvement can help to foster a sense of ownership and responsibility among community members, which can further support efforts to improve access to safe abortions. In summary, social behavior change and access to safe abortions are interconnected and mutually reinforcing. By changing social norms and behaviors surrounding reproductive health, societies can work towards reducing the stigma associated with abortion and increasing the acceptance of women's reproductive rights.Reciprocally, I feel strengthening access to safe abortion care within the health system and promoting social behaviour change approaches and perspectives is core to meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) relating to good health and well-being (SDG3) and gender equality (SDG5).

Happy Pride Month! June is one of our favorite months of the year because it's a great time to celebrate and raise awareness around the beautiful spectrum of identities of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, and agender people!? ? It’s also a great time for us to reflect on the fact that reproductive health care isn’t only for straight, cisgender women. Although many people talk about reproductive health as a “women’s issue,” many LGBTQIA+ people — including lesbian and bisexual women and people, transgender men, non-binary and gender non-conforming individuals — use birth control, can get pregnant, have abortions, carry pregnancies, and become parents. Despite this fact, many LGBTQIA+ people experience disproportionate challenges in accessing sexual and reproductive healthcare. ? ? At carafem, we believe all health care should be easy to understand and access; and centered around you and your needs. We work to provide the best possible health care in a way that celebrates all aspects of your identity, including your sexual orientation, gender, gender identity and expression, race, ethnicity, immigration status, socioeconomic background, dis/ability, and age. If there’s anything we can do to make your experience with carafem more affirming to your identity, please let us know.? ? We honor the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) LGBTQIA+ healers, midwives, doulas, and care providers who helped build the foundation for abortion care in America and remain passionate about providing care despite being thwarted by racism, sexism, and classism. And we know that Black trans and queer women, femmes, and gender-nonconforming people are the foundation of Pride. The fight for inclusive, affirming, and accessible reproductive health care is a crucial part of Reproductive Justice, a term coined by Indigenous women, women of color, and trans people in 1994.? ? Image Description: Text graphic with a rainbow stripe on the left side that says "Common misconception: Abortion care is only for heterosexual, cis-gendered women. Fact: People of many genders and sexualities have abortions."

Making embryos a person harms already marginalized communities, most especially LGBTQ, disabled, and over 40+. Story time: When I went through IVF, my body produced 19 eggs and every single one successfully fertilized. We froze each one and had them tested for genetic viability. Only two were viable. The remaining were completely genetically fucked-up (not the technical term.) Some were missing as many as two whole chromosomes. Some had 3-4 genetic anomalies which made them non-viable. We destroyed the 17 that were non-viable and implanted one of the two viable ones. This one embryo became my second daughter. We still have the other. If this rule was law of the land back then, I’d have to retain those 17 completely fucked up embryos and pay the annual costs for the cryo services. I suppose I could deduct those as childcare and also file for social security numbers so I could file all those embryos as dependents. But in all seriousness, this is so harmful for so many and especially to the LGBTQ, over 40+, and disability community who depend on IVF as a way to start a family. And what happens to the reproductive benefits employers offer. Will companies start to withdrawal benefits due to liability?

This Pride Month, we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and honor the trans and gender-expansive activists who fought for their right to bodily autonomy during the Stonewall Uprisings and those who continue this fight today. As trans, gender-expansive, and LGBTQ+ folks continue to face heightened attacks and discrimination across the country, we are reminded that all struggles for freedom and bodily autonomy are intertwined. Sexual and reproductive justice cannot be advanced without the liberation of Black and LGBTQ+ communities. Ibis is committed to advancing reproductive autonomy, choices, and health through collaborative, principled partnerships with advocates and other change champions to shift power to communities that face the greatest barriers to access. Both Ibis’s Free the Pill project and our trans and gender-expansive (TGE) research portfolio exemplify this unique approach. Our latest blog post highlights research conducted by Free the Pill, Ibis researchers, and the Pride Study to better understand interest in over-the-counter access to progestin-only birth control pills among trans, nonbinary, and gender-expansive folks.
