As part of EHF's recent statewide survey on #diabetes in Texas, we asked Texans what ideas would be effective for diabetes prevention. Their answers? Increased affordable access to care and screenings. But they also told us Texas can't look at the medical system alone for solutions. Instead, Texans say they support a broad approach: educational resources, community programs, and engagement from the food and health care industries. Nearly 80% of Texans we surveyed want doctors and nurses discussing diabetes risks, but they also recognize the need for larger stakeholders like government agencies and health insurers?to get involved. Prioritizing diabetes risk reduction can improve health outcomes, empower Texans to take control of their well-being, and save billions in avoidable health care costs. Let’s make it possible for every Texan to know their diabetes risk, access affordable preventive care, and live in an environment that supports healthier choices.
