Phages have been present on Earth for billions of years, yet we’ve only known about them for little more than 100 years. ?? ?? First observed in 1915 by Frederick William Twort, it was French-Canadian Félix d'Herelle who discovered their potential to kill bacteria – leading to the first bacteriophage trials to treat infections. While this therapeutic approach fell out of favour for antibiotics, phage therapy has re-emerged as a promising solution to the growing problem of AMR. At NexaBiome, we have the tools and knowledge to develop effective and sustainable phage treatments to help revolutionise both human and animal health. #Bacteriophage #Phage #AMR #Science

Geneticists have discovered that pets can serve as effective models for studying the impact of environmental and lifestyle factors on human health. This research can have significant implications for human medicine, as dogs and cats share many of our genes and are vulnerable to a wide range of diseases that also affect humans, including cancer and diabetes. #NYT #pets #science #dogs #cats #geneticists #genetics #medicine

As a dog owner and metabolomics enthusiast, I'm excited to share a #multiomics study focused on the microbiome-metabolome connection in fearful dogs! For my friends in #microbiome research or #AnimalHealth, this is a great read! Check out the full article (https://bit.ly/4jgKDQN) by Luigi Sacchettino et al. in PLOS One to see how behavior dysfunctions in dogs are becoming a major concern for both pet welfare and human-animal bonds. With more pets showing anxiety and fear-based behaviors, understanding the biological basis becomes crucial. ?? The study combines microbiome profiling (genomics) with targeted metabolomics to reveal a complex interplay between gut bacteria and systemic metabolism in fearful dogs ?? Found how shifts in key bacterial populations (especially Firmicutes and Proteobacteria) connect with specific metabolic changes (Just look at the beautiful separation in the PCA between case and control!), particularly in neurotransmitter pathways ?? Shows why integrating multiple omics approaches matters - the microbiome changes matched metabolic alterations in ways we wouldn't see studying either alone ?? Opens new directions for companion animal research by demonstrating how multi-omics approaches can uncover complex biological networks This kind of integrated analysis helps us better understand the gut-brain axis in our pets. Looking forward to seeing more studies using this #multiomics approach!#Microbiome #MultiOmics #PetHealth #Research Thank you to the authors: Luigi Sacchettino, Michele Costanzo, Iolanda Veneruso, Valeria D'Argenio, Maria Mayer, Francesco Napoletano, and Daniela D'Angelo from the Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II (UniNa) / University of Naples Federico II, CEINGE Official Profile - Biotecnologie Avanzate Franco Salvatore, San Raffaele Open University, and FNOVI!
