Thanks to everyone for the continued conversation about the climate in downtown Raleigh and all the great ideas you have brought forth. Let's move into another era of a thriving Downtown. With all this being said I did want to take advantage of this attention for some self-promotion (I mean this is LinkedIn). What have we done to adapt and improve ourselves here at Crank Arm Brewing Company ? We have worked on overall customer experience. Increased training for staff members. Added health benefits for all employees who work over 20 hours per week including vision, dental, short-term disability and life insurance. Upgraded our POS to speed up check out times and to reduce paper waste. Worked closely with the Downtown Raleigh Alliance on the Sip n' Stroll social district and to add a Food Truck zone on Davie St. Added a spirits program that incorporates local beverage producers into our lineup. (We realize that not everyone loves beer) Added more weekly events including Music Bingo on Mondays, Trivia on Thursdays and a faster speed, longer distance ride on Sundays. Having more themed community events more frequently than twice a year or once a quarter. Added a community outreach specialist who's mission is to engage with local business and communities to find way to collaborate and to drive traffic to the tasting room. Q: What do you enjoy most about your job? A: Working with my two team members at the Territory Specialist desk and constantly learning new things about grease interceptors and plumbing. Q: What do you value most about the company culture? A: Can I say the whole thing? The culture is the best part of Schier! But specifically, I value our purpose statement, especially as an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) company. Q: Outside of work, what are your interests and hobbies? A: Golf, pickleball, watching sports and TV shows, video games, and hanging out with my friends and family. My wife, Callee, is my best friend, so you’ll usually find us spending time together with our cat, Aphrodite, and our amazing friend group in KC. Coffee, breakfast, dinner, or cocktails—we’re always up for it! Q: If you could travel anywhere, where would you go, and who would you take? A: Scotland with my wife, of course! We close the office for a day and set out on an adventure. For those who don’t know, Richard is my brother. It’s true, you can’t pick your family. Even so, I’d always pick Rich. Through an honour system, we keep one another accountable to share in quality coffee beans and keeping the machine clean after every use. This simple act of honesty and care ensures that everyone benefits from a great coffee break, while also reinforcing our shared commitment to act with integrity. But it's not just about the coffee. It's about building a community rooted in collective care and accountability. For instance, we also have Honest Stationery Stations where colleagues can borrow supplies with the promise of returning them, fostering trust and responsibility. And, for a bit of fun, there's even an Honest Chess Station where everyone can make a move daily, promoting community and shared enjoyment.
