AUVSI Urges Congress to Boost Uncrewed Systems in Defense Strategy The AUVSI — Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International has submitted comments to the U.S. House Armed Services Committee, addressing challenges faced by the defense industrial base, particularly small and medium-sized businesses developing dual-use technologies. AUVSI’s president and CEO, Michael Robbins, emphasized the importance of the United States Department of Defense’s Replicator initiative in driving demand for uncrewed systems. Robbins stated, “AUVSI is hopeful that Replicator will lead to an agile acquisition process that accelerates capabilities to the warfighter.” AUVSI’s recommendations include increasing funding for autonomous systems, integrating these technologies into the US Navy, and evolving the Replicator initiative to accelerate deployment. General Dynamics Land Systems, a division of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), has delivered two prototype vehicles to the U.S. Army as part of the Robotic Combat Vehicle (RCV) competition. This timely delivery supports upcoming mobility testing and a Soldier touchpoint. In 2023, GD Land Systems was selected as one of four companies to develop prototypes for the RCV program. Their entry, the updated TRX (Tracked Robot 10-ton) robotic combat vehicle, is designed for high transportability and offers significant growth potential, interoperability, and modularity to accommodate a variety of future mission modules and payloads. The TRX features a class-leading payload-to-chassis ratio of 1:1, enabling it to maneuver effectively alongside all formations. The architecture of the TRX supports both current RCV platform requirements and future enhancements. It generates substantial exportable power for mission command operations and incorporates a hybrid-electric propulsion system, aligning with the Army’s climate and electrification strategies. Equipped with advanced lightweight materials and AI-enhanced design, the TRX is positioned to excel in multiple battlefield roles, including direct and indirect fire support, autonomous resupply, complex obstacle breaching, counter-unmanned aerial systems (C-UAS), electronic warfare, reconnaissance, and more.
