?? 20 years of the EU Eastern Enlargement ?? For me, the past two decades mark more than just Poland's integration into the European Union. It is an anniversary of something that has been defining for my life journey. My generation was one of European promise; many of our Polish parents fed us promises of opportunities, connections, and endless possibilities—things they themselves were not given access to while growing up. I remember us, as students, scraping together funds to afford an Erasmus Semester somewhere else, diving into European student organizations, traveling, and learning as many languages as possible. We were eager to learn more, see more, and understand more. This “European dream” seems to be a driving force of migration after 2004, states a report prepared by Muzeum Emigracji w Gdyni. The majority of respondents (almost 90 %) stated that they didn't have the opportunity to fulfill their dreams, or these opportunities were very limited. However, for some, the dream was simply to live without fear or in peace; for them, leaving Poland was an escape from discrimination and a lack of acceptance towards non-heteronormative individuals. We appreciate the opportunities afforded to us, yet we have also discovered, at times quite brutally, that many of the promises were illusions being shattered. It is a journey that should be celebrated and cherished. Recognition of foreign qualifications: Streamlined and transparent processes to validate degrees and credentials obtained abroad. Incentives for returning professionals: Enhanced tax benefits and innovative tools to attract highly skilled workers back to Italy. Expat networks: Strengthening ties with Italian professionals abroad through institutional networks and bilateral initiatives.
