Nicely put... also, using an excess of strong words such as embark and embrace can make your speech sound overly mechanical.

I used to do some editing for writers who were largely from India and Pakistan, and the one thing that stuck with me was that adverbs tended to trip them up. A person was never 'running quickly' or 'quickly running', they were always 'running in a quick manner'.

I have been guilty of the first error (perhaps in my latest post too). Grammarly didn't pick that up. It seems it has its limitations in such cases. Thank you for this post, Philip Charter ??

these are really some lesser-known mistakes, I didn't even notice myself making them up until now but now onwards it will stay in my mind. Glad to have stumbled upon this today !
