This summer, the Texas power grid was put to the test as record-breaking temperatures drove electricity demand to all-time highs. ?? Fortunately, energy storage is helping to keep the grid resilient and sustainable in extreme conditions. For example, on August 20th ERCOT set new peaks for solar generation, which played a crucial role in keeping the grid stable during the day, but as the sun set and solar power waned, the grid struggled to meet continued high demand, leading to a spike in energy prices. It’s time to flip the script on renewable curtailment. With the U.S. set to add a record 36.4 GW of utility-scale solar in 2024, oversupply during sunny periods with low demand remains a challenge. But here’s the good news: LDES can turn this challenge into an opportunity by storing excess energy that would be curtailed - making solar projects more profitable and attractive for investors. This enables the development of more clean energy projects while strengthening the grid and helping us achieve clean energy targets. ?? #curtailment
