Malaysia’s goal of integrating electric vehicles (EVs) into its transportation sector faces various challenges, including inadequate charging infrastructure, weight limitations of large trucks, and high initial costs of EVs. Despite these hurdles, the sector is gradually adopting EVs due to their environmental benefits and lower operating costs. Nestle Malaysia exemplifies successful public-private partnerships in this transition. Through the “Milo Sayang Bumi” program, Nestle uses EV trucks for cross-border supply between its Chembong factory and Singapore’s Jurong facility. Such collaborations are crucial for Malaysia to achieve its national goal of a 45% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030. This is a huge step towards fulfilling international market requirements that prioritize sustainability and obtaining Emission Reduction Certificates (ERCs)! This isn't the first time PLN IP has taken action to support sustainability and a low-carbon economy. They've previously collaborated with PT Bala Biotech Indonesia and PT Iklim Muda Sentosa for carbon trading, showcasing their dedication to green initiatives. "Through carbon trading, we are committed to supporting national decarbonization and the 2060 Net Zero Emission target. PLN IP opens opportunities for partners to be involved in this green collaboration," said Edwin Nugraha Putra, President Director of PLN Indonesia Power. Seri Pajam Development Sdn Bhd has launched the 523.23-acre SPD Tech Valley in Senawang, a RM3 billion industrial park adhering to LEED Gold standards and ESG criteria, targeting global tech industry players. The project, inspired by UNIDO and UN SDG guidelines, will feature various industrial lots, intelligent warehouses, and renewable energy solutions, diversifying Seri Pajam's portfolio from residential projects. Capital Markets Malaysia (CMM) introduced enhanced ESG disclosure guidelines for SMEs in key sectors such as energy, transport and logistics, construction, agriculture, and manufacturing. Building on the 2023 simplified ESG disclosure guide (SEDG), these sector-specific guides accommodate different levels of sustainability maturity and address environmental impacts and human rights standards. The 6th International Sustainable Energy Summit (ISES) 2024 will be held on August 20-21 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Organized by Seda Malaysia, the summit aims to drive Malaysia towards 70% renewable energy capacity by 2050 and will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
