?? In my first big job after college, I worked for a global agency where retail was a major focus. Like most marketers, I started out as a coordinator, which meant handling all the grunt work for trade shows. I remember asking my boss what NRF was, and she laughed, saying, “Oh, you haven’t heard of National Retail Federation yet? It’s the biggest show for retail.” I think she laughed because she knew how much work it was going to be for our team ;) Fast forward a few years, and I had attended a few times. But one year was different — I had just co-founded RETHINK Retail with Paul Lewis, and he suggested I register as media. We were still new, so I wasn’t sure I’d be accepted. To my surprise, I was! I remember walking the show floor, watching people high-five and hug like they were at a reunion. I immediately felt out of place. I thought back to my business professors who emphasized, “Your network is your net worth.” Why didn’t I have that? I wanted to know people and be known. So I promised myself that one day I’d be the one high-fiving with familiar faces (sounds cheesy I know, but I really did picture this). I told myself one day we (RETHINK) would collaborate with NRF in a bigger way — not just as attending media. It took many years to earn credibility in our highly people-first industry... and even more years to build that with NRF. But today, I’m taking a moment to feel grateful. Collaborating with NRF to launch #RetailVoices is a career highlight, and being part of this group feels like coming full circle from that first day at Javits when I felt so small. Withum’s New England expansion has spanned over the course of almost 10 years. We originally broke into the region in 2015, when we opened our office in Boston. In 2018, our Massachusetts footprint grew with the introduction of our Woburn location. Withum's presence extended in 2021 with our Providence office and expanded even further with our Braintree location in 2023. As you can see, our team members have deep-rooted ties to New England and we take great pride in being part of this community. This morning team Word on the Street Events had the pleasure of speaking on the ‘Listen Up Insights’ panel discussing all things diversity, inclusivity, sustainability and technology alongside emc3 | Certified B Corp located at the beautiful Somerset House. Before the panel, we kicked off with insights from Peter Mandeno (PhD) - a human connectivity specialist who covered many interesting topics such as the paradox of human connectivity at events. People attend events to connect to others but most people find it difficult to make and maintain them. Mandeno then went through actionable solutions on how to overcome this paradox at events. ?? ?? ?? ZIGGING: Going against the grain. Zigging when others zag. That get’s attention. White & Case LLP (some years ago now) wanted to zig in London. Developed brand building campaign for recruitment. ‘One Person Can Make a Difference’ was brought to life by others who had zigged. Tommy Cooper, Marlene Dietrich, Amelia Earhart, Jacques Cousteau and Bill Shankly all zigged in their successful careers. Sometimes when firms want to stand-out, gotta be brave and zig a little (better still, zig a lot!). #branding #ziggingwhenotherszag #creatingimpact
