The NAFSMA (National Association of Flood and Stormwater Management Agencies) Annual Conference helps advance public policy and facilitates strategic partnerships that enhance #stormwater and #floodmanagement efforts across the country. As a sponsor for this year’s event, Enchanted Rock has a shared commitment to protecting essential services, and we’re always excited to explore solutions that deliver #resilience for critical infrastructure like stormwater #pumpstations. Special thanks go out to Greg Bowen for representing our team and for engaging in conversations around safer, more sustainable practices for our communities. Drainage is in the news ?? United Utilities discharging sewage into Lake Windermere, Cryptosporidium in Devon's drinking water, Thames Water £15 billion in debt. Development and construction issues rarely make it into mainstream media but are equally concerning. Climate change, combined with a failure to invest, means there is increasing amounts of land taken for drainage solutions as various regulators (Drainage Authorities, Local Lead Flood Authorities (LLFAs) and Internal Drainage Boards (IDBs) vie for the smallest residual risk. In turn, this impacts development viability, taking up a great deal of time in revisions to development proposals. LAND can assist. FloodBreak Automatic Floodgates aren't just a solution; they're a safeguard for communities across the globe. From small businesses to critical infrastructure, FloodBreak has proven its effectiveness time and again with thousands of successful installations. As floodwaters rise, the barrier automatically activates, sealing off entryways with a self-sealing rubber gasket, powered by the water itself. The system is almost invisible, yet will function day or night, even in the worst flooding conditions. No power, no pumps, no manpower needed—just ingenious engineering! #FloodMitigation #PassiveFloodProtection #FloodResiliency

Flood-MAR (Flood Managed Aquifer Recharge) is a flexible, voluntary water management approach that captures excess floodwater from rain or snowmelt to recharge groundwater aquifers. It involves diverting floodwater onto agricultural lands, natural areas, floodplains, and bypasses, allowing water to infiltrate and replenish underground resources. Flood-MAR enhances water supply resilience, supports flood mitigation, and benefits ecosystems, making it a vital strategy for integrated water resource management. https://lnkd.in/dBcKtNBQ

Severe storms, flooding, sea level rise and climate change are all issues marinas deal with. Stormwater is often associated with these issues. For the last few years, a team from Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin Sea Grants, along with Clean Marina programs in those states, have been working together to ensure marinas on any coast understand what stormwater is and how it can be controlled. https://lnkd.in/gdmCgRH5 #MarinaDockAge #MDA #stormwater

"East Coast cities are increasingly susceptible to flooding due to #ClimateChange. But changing weather patterns are only half of the problem — the other is inadequate #Infrastructure. In particular, these recent flood events were made worse by Boston and New York’s combined sewer systems, which carry both stormwater and sewage in the same pipes. When such a system reaches capacity during heavy rainfall or storm surge events, it backs up, sending a mixture of stormwater and raw sewage into waterways (and sometimes also into streets and homes)." Rising sea levels and increased precipitation are causing havoc on our aging sewer systems, leading to more frequent and severe flooding. But proactive solutions are on the horizon. Thanks to comprehensive research and collaborative efforts with the Camden County Municipal Utilities Authority (CCMUA), innovative strategies like the Pennsauken disconnection are being developed to mitigate these issues. This forward-thinking approach helps reduce flooding and sewer overflows, promising a safer and more resilient future. #SewerInfrastructure #SewerSystems
