7 Things I Learned After Opening My Wellness Startup - Ojisan ??

7 Things I Learned After Opening My Wellness Startup - Ojisan ??

1. Never be too nice as a boss: Throughout my career, I've often been too considerate and not assertive enough. This doesn't work if you want your business to thrive. People may not listen to you or respect your authority. Sometimes, we need clear boundaries between employees and the boss. Being a good boss doesn't mean always being nice. Be a good example! Be the coach! ??

2. "If we want people to be kind to us, we need to be kind to them first." These are the words I share with every employee I hire. It's a principle I believe in. However, the reality of business has taught me a harder lesson. Many employees I've had to fire often complained about the company, gossiped behind my back, and even tried to convince others to leave. They were usually unhappy about things like their salary or how much work they had to do. I learned that while kindness is important, it shouldn't come at the cost of your business's health. We should never be too nice to people who cause trouble and hurt our company's atmosphere. Instead, spot these harmful people quickly and let them go without delay. Always protect the culture of your company - it's the key to your success. ?

3. Life is about creating happiness, not just making money: You can work and have a big title in the corporate world. But if you're staying in those companies just for money as you climb the ladder, you're missing the point. It should be about fulfilling your dream or finding happiness. Most people who chase big money without enjoying what they do end up failing because they're pursuing the wrong goal. If you're passionate about what you do, it's much harder to quit when times get tough because your business becomes your source of happiness. ??

4. Think big and maintain a panoramic view: It's smarter to think extremely big and always see everything from a panoramic view from the first day you plan to open your business. The plan you lay down for a huge project will make it easier for you to execute because you leave room for changes and have backup plans if things don't go as expected. While execution is crucial, planning big is equally necessary. ??

5. Embrace the jack-of-all-trades role: Being an entrepreneur means learning skills you might not be naturally good at – IT, accounting, finance, admin, HR, and more. You can't just focus on high-value tasks; you'll need to do everything, even the mundane minimum-wage ?50-per-hour jobs. If you only want to focus on what you're good at, you might be better off working for someone else. Entrepreneurship requires versatility and willingness to learn. ???

6. Believe in your vision, even when others don't: When I decided to venture into health and wellness, my family thought it was too risky and a significant shift. We had many arguments, but over time, they've come to understand and support my dream. Remember, lack of support doesn't mean you're on the wrong path. It's about pursuing what's valuable and important to you as a dream catcher. ??

7. Your opinion of your business matters most: It's not important how others perceive your endeavor or if they think your concept won't work. What's crucial is how you view your business – your 'baby'. If you truly believe in it, you don't need to worry about lack of support, even from your inner circle. As you progress, you'll naturally discover who to associate with and who to keep at a distance. This journey will reveal true supporters and fair-weather friends. ??

Starting your own business is never easy, especially with limited capital and experience. I have constraints in both areas, but because I'm focusing on bringing happiness to myself and those I love, I learn every day how to handle things better. The real value of starting a business isn't about fame, money, or becoming a millionaire. It's an opportunity to learn about myself in all dimensions, step out of my comfort zone, continuously challenge limits, and fulfill a once-in-a-lifetime purpose.

We all should strive to discover our true calling in life. While I believe I've found mine in this business, I remain open to growth and new possibilities. This journey is about constant learning, adapting, and finding where I can make the most meaningful contribution. For me, It's not about being the best but about doing what feels right and impactful to me and those around me. ??
