Last week, I had the pleasure of attending my first American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) event in Houston, hosted in collaboration with the Healthcare Leadership Quorum. It was, by far, my most enriching educational networking experience to date! The discussions were engaging, inclusive, and highly informative. The passion and innovative thinking of these leaders towards enhancing community healthcare were truly inspiring. Each panel could be its own post with so many good nuggets of info, but I've condensed the key highlights that resonated most with me below. Human Capital & People Strategy (Panelists: Dr. Stephen Spann, Dr. David Persse, Erica Littlejohn Burnette) ? Medicine is in danger of moving from a relational experience to a transactional one ? "It is hard to charge for 5 minutes of honest listening." – Dr. David Persse ? Emphasize upstream care (PCP / SDOH) & evolve towards innovative delivery models ? A staggering ~19.3-year life expectancy gap exists between the wealthiest and poorest Houston residents. AI in Healthcare (Panelists: David Burnett, MSN, NI-BC, Dr. Jordan Dale, Angela Wilkins) ? Start slowly and proceed intentionally ? Prioritize education on risks & quality control ? AI is useless unless it works within the workflow Mental Health (Russell Meyers, Carlie A. Brown, MPH, MHA, Wayne Young, MBA, LPC, FACHE) ? HIGH need for agility and creative thinking ? The need to integrate mental health into overall healthcare to combat stigma and silos **Mental health care is just a type of healthcare** ? There is a 29-year life expectancy gap between those with and without mental illness, largely due to unmanaged chronic conditions. ? The care pathway for patients with mental illness often leads to the back of a squad car rather than a PCP or ED. These insights underscore the critical need for systemic change in our approach to healthcare. I'm excited to continue learning and contributing to these vital conversations. #HealthcareLeadership #ACHEEvent #HumanCapital #PeopleStrategy #HealthcareInnovation #CommunityHealth #PrimaryCare #SocialDeterminantsOfHealth #AIInHealthcare #MentalHealthAwareness #QualityCare #HealthcareTransformation #Networking #HealthEquity #PatientCare #HealthcareEducation #LeadershipQuorum

What values led you here? Maybe it’s compassion—the unwavering belief that everyone deserves empathy, no matter their story. Maybe it’s resilience—the drive to make a difference, even on the hardest days. Or maybe it’s integrity—the commitment to always advocate for your patients, even when it’s not easy. Now, reflect on this: How do these values show up in your daily interactions? Are you leading with them in every patient session, or are there moments where the demands of the job pull you away from them? And if so, how can you realign? Your values aren’t just the foundation of your purpose— they’re the compass guiding your career. Reconnecting with them isn’t just good for your patients; it’s how you stay grounded, energized, and fulfilled in the work you do. What’s one core value that drives you? Drop it in the comments and let’s celebrate the heart behind what we do. #PMHNP #ValuesInPractice #MentalHealthProfessionals #CompassionInCare #ThrivingNotSurviving #ProfessionalGrowth #PatientCare #PurposeDrivenWork

I love this ??. Reflect on the year past and set goals for the year ahead! See my 2024 LinkedIn Rewind, by Coauthor.studio: This year proved that healthcare equity isn't just a strategy—it's a living, breathing commitment to community. As Vice President of Diversity, Health Equity, Inclusion & Justice at Rochester Regional Health, I've witnessed how powerful change happens when institutional leadership genuinely listens and responds to community needs. Our work isn't about checking boxes; it's about creating real pathways to more equitable healthcare. Some moments that truly captured our journey: ? Partnering with the Center for Urology to host "The Black Walnut" film screening, bringing critical awareness to prostate cancer disparities. Our community conversations that day showed me—again—that understanding starts with listening. https://lnkd.in/gak-UFYd ? Launching our Diversity in Healthcare pipeline program, welcoming future leaders from UPREP Charter School and showing them authentic healthcare career paths. Watching young people see themselves in healthcare leadership? Absolutely priceless. https://lnkd.in/gBMJJtDT ? Participating in the Witness to Injustice Blanket Project, learning from Indigenous facilitators and recommitting to understanding and supporting Indigenous communities. These aren't just events—they're opportunities for profound collective learning. https://lnkd.in/gjzTQkqs This year also brought some incredible professional milestones: earning my Certified Patient Experience Professional (CPXP) certification, obtaining Just Culture Certification, and continuing to teach Healthcare Leadership at Rochester Institute of Technology. A few personal achievements that mean the world to me: ? Promoted to Vice President of Diversity, Health Equity, Inclusion & Justice ? Continued expanding At The Table Consulting's impact ? Maintained my commitment to developing diverse healthcare pipelines Looking ahead to 2025: We're not just expanding health equity initiatives. We're building sustainable, community-driven approaches that center the expertise and experiences of those we serve. To our incredible community partners, healthcare teams, and every individual working to make healthcare more equitable - your commitment doesn't just drive progress. It transforms lives. #RRHCenterforDiversity #HealthcareEquity #LeadershipInAction #LinkedInRewind

Needing inspiration? Igniting that spark, that belief that we can, and unlocking that energy, creating that roadmap of possibility is what we are all about at Health Futures. One of our ways to do this is through Innovation and Learning Labs operating nationwide in a range of shapes and forms, all pursuing a boost in our capability to lead transformational change. Our Labs bring public health and wellbeing, leading through complexity, and future system shifting and shaping together. Our Labs are designed to go deeper, because we need to whether we are working on our leadership capability or wicked solution design to any range of current complex challenges we face. We start with sensing the system we are in, gathering perspectives and insights, reflecting, and reflecting even more. Deepness comes from realising and seeing ourselves in the system, often recognising we are the change also, to that ‘aha’ moment or moments where we collectively identify we are ready and equipped for change that comes with foresight, strategy, compassion, needed disruption and transformative leadership. ? From working with innovative statutory authorities like Victorian Health Promotion Foundation (VicHealth) and our local governments in Victoria to community businesses and partners in the Northern Territory – with the powerhouse Indigenous-led TRACKS Integrated Services and Nicole Thompson, this work matters and provides public health and wellbeing efforts with timely and very promising system shifting opportunity. Always great to catch up with John Davidson, MBA, PA-C who I d considered the Godfather of APPs in NYU Langone Health. The #PAs and #NPs profession grew like a rocket ship under his leadership — with a robust leadership structure that transformed care delivery across the network. Despite leaving clinical medicine and NYU altogether since 2018, this organization still has a special place in my heart and I will always be thankful for the experiences. Hence I would still reach out from time to time to reconnect with el jefe. Who knows the healthcare is small community. 。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。 Time management is such an important skillset that requires dilligence and discipline - making the illusion as if you have control of time. People often ask me how I juggle my time. I would say weekends are for my wife and kids, week days are for work, weeknights are for networking and in between is for catching up and connecting virtually. I try really hard to continuously connect with my friends and engage my entire network to the best of my ability. Making new friends is easy, maintaining them can be challenging — so choose wisely.

One phrase & a short video gave me an "Aha!" moment 11 years in the making. Last week, I spoke at the Venice Family Clinic all-company meeting. Yes, it was a privilege to deliver the keynote. The real privilege was hearing about their services. Mitesh Popat and the VFC team deliver: ? Community Wellness ? Community Engagement ? Comprehensive Healthcare ...To people who otherwise wouldn't have access to it. ?????? ????????????: "Community Health" The American Hospital Association defines 'Community Health' as: "...??????-??????????????????-?????????? health services delivered outside hospitals and clinics." I worked with community health organizations more than a decade ago. I wondered why people must visit multiple locations for medical, vision, dental, behavioral, nutrition, pediatric, geriatric, and other services. ?? ?????????? ??????????: Dr. Popat and the senior leadership team finished their meeting with a short video of staff, patients, services, and their perspectives and experiences. https://lnkd.in/gejE_W33 ?????? "??????!": You can't be all things to all people... BUT ... You can be lots of things to your people! ????????????: Keep adding experiences and content to your repository. You'll experience more "Aha!" moments and... You'll deliver more "Aha!" moments. Get more dots to connect more dots. Until next time... I'll be looking for you in the periphery. ====== I'm Paul. In this episode of REJUVENAGING with Dr. Ron Kaiser, Dr. Karen Rigamonti, a physician and executive coach, shares her journey of transforming personal adversity into a mission for fostering resilience, compassion, and well-being in healthcare and beyond. Dr. Karen reflects on a life-altering experience involving a preventable medical error during her son's birth, which highlighted the critical need for better communication, empathy, and listening in healthcare. Drawing from her 30+ years in medicine and organizational leadership, she emphasizes the importance of creating supportive environments that empower individuals to thrive and prevent burnout through curiosity, collaboration, and connection. While recognizing that most patients receive quality treatment by caring providers, Dr. Karen discusses the systemic challenges within healthcare, including toxic workplace cultures, lack of proper support for staff, and misaligned priorities that compromise patient care. She advocates for small but impactful changes, such as better eye contact, meaningful interactions, and addressing practical barriers faced by patients and staff alike. Her work with leaders, teams, and organizations focuses on experiential learning to improve communication and build inclusive, energized communities. She also highlights the ripple effects of positive cultures, where engaged employees lead to better patient outcomes, reduced turnover, and increased organizational loyalty. The conversation between Dr. Ron and Dr. Karen underscores the universal applicability of Dr. Karen's principles, which extend beyond healthcare to other industries. From leaders fostering inclusive workplaces to individuals advocating for themselves in healthcare settings, the episode is a call to action for embracing curiosity, collaboration, and compassion in all areas of life. Dr. Karen's insights and tools, available through her website and social media, aim to guide listeners in creating meaningful connections and thriving in both personal and professional spheres.
