In all the hubbub, I didn't re-post this terrific research--and practical ways to apply it--from Philanthropy for Active Civic Engagement (PACE). Communication and connection across differences is much easier with respect (of course) and particularly respect for what our words and context-setting signal. As so many good folks (like Danielle Allen, Duf Sundheim, Eric Liu, Brooke Deterline, Stuart Comstock-Gay, Van Jones) regularly demonstrate, taking the time to speak plainly and accessibly goes a long way when bridge-building.

? Closing the gap in women’s civic and political leadership by addressing technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV) against women in public life is critical to the health of democracies. At UNGA79, Ambassador Geeta Rao Gupta brought together experts and advocates to showcase new initiatives and resources to address TFGBV and drive collective action. ? At this event, Humane Intelligence Chief of Staff Theodora Skeadas discussed technological interventions to counter the harms and risks posed by artificial intelligence, including TFGBV and gendered disinformation. ? Humane Intelligence facilitates red team exercises to identify different modes of failure in a system and generate safety benchmarks, and algorithmic bias bounty challenges to equip people with the skills required to effectively carry out algorithmic assessments. Our very own Danequa Forrest ???? wrote an essay that is featured in Urban Institute’s third edition of their Do No Harm Guide, a project that aims to, “inform data practitioners about data equity and resetting their framing to prioritize intention and empathy.” This edition focused on “Crafting Equitable Data Narratives”, and Danequa’s article highlighted the importance of being mindful of the social context in data. She discusses the importance of contextual language, how to use it, and why it’s important in research and reporting. Contextual language is imperative for offering a complete and accurate understanding of what the data represents. As Danequa puts it, “Data researchers should not live in fear of being corrected, but in acceptance of imperfection, coupled with a desire to improve."
