We’re close to completion on our contract with GTA Interior at a 5 floor commercial office premises in Brighton, where all windows and doors are being replaced to upgrade the building as part of a full refurbishment. Structura are proud to win contracts like this, where sustainability is key to the retrofit spec. All glass is being responsibly recycled and where possible, materials are re-used. As is often the case, it's mostly about the prep. The team begin by safely extracting the dated glazing and framework, then increasing the opening and cleaning it up for the new unit. This Aluprof system requires the EPDM to be attached directly to the frame as opposed to the opening. Once this is in place, lugs are fitted, then the unit is ready to be installed. The frame then sits over the cill pressing which is already installed along the bottom edge of the opening. After some accuracy checks and minor adjustments with packers, the unit it ready for the next steps. The membrane is sealed using specialist adhesive which is made smooth on the surface and rolled flat wherever possible for best adhesion, followed by the lugs being mechanically fixed in place. Along the top of these units, insulation is required and sealed under the membrane before lugs are attached. After this process is complete and all adhesive is dry, the team will trim back any excess materials to make good for the plastering contractor. What you can’t see in this video is the vapour barrier which is added before the original timber internal windowsill is re-instated… and of course, the new glazing! #ukconstruction #windows #glazing #sustainableconstruction #sustainability #Aluprof #aluminium
