???? Our spatial computing experiments continue… For our fourth experiment, we were keen to explore how to use the environment within spatial experiences for something other than gaming. And instead of a visible spatial reaction, what about an audible one? Built for Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest,?Strings?acts as a mixed reality musical instrument for users to place and play wherever they like in their space. Dropped into the real world environment, groups of virtual strings vary in tonal values depending on their physical placement - so users can position them in different areas of their room to generate different types of sound. One of the interesting things about human brain is how we it was evolved to understand the 3D space around us yet could correlate from 2D experiences such as things on tvscreen, mobile etc. Even though the experience from 3D to 2D is nowhere close, it seems our brain is highly adaptable to even low dimensions. Especially if we do not have enough concious energy to fully compute the 3D world around us, we would rather accomodate our experiences to low dimension experiences such as mobile games, tvs etc. So our ability to compute our true reality diminishes and we end up computing utter waste on 2D experiences.

Hey Cats! ?? Some of you reading this may be stumbling across the world of accessible gaming for the first time and wonder what makes a game accessible for someone visually impaired. Well, wonder no more as over the next couple of weeks we’re about to look at three main audio and tactile features that help bring accessible gaming to life, starting with spatial audio! Spatial audio is a technology that mimics three-dimensional sound environments, allowing players to perceive the direction, distance, and location of in-game sounds. By reproducing the way sound waves interact with the environment, spatial audio helps to make games more immersive and provides valuable audio cues for navigation, situational awareness, and gameplay interactions. The benefit of spatial audio, from an accessibility perspective, is that it provides auditory feedback and orientation cues. Games like "The Last of Us Part II" offer audio cues that help players navigate the environment and locate objects or points of interest, making the game more accessible to players who rely on auditory information. At AudioCat we’re passionate about making our games as accessible to the visually impaired community as possible.
