Octave is partnering with The Standard Celeration Society to cohost another FREE, open Chart Share event on Wednesday, August 28th, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM EST, focusing on one of our favorite topics—teaching and learning academic skills! As you may know, Precision Teachers have been using standardized charts for decades to measure and enhance learning progress and outcomes. This event will be a fantastic opportunity for our community of practitioners to: ? Present our own charts and receive feedback from peers ? See new examples of charts tracking diverse academic skills ? Discover and learn new techniques for data collection and analysis ? Network with fellow educators who are passionate about evidence-based practices and the charts. By the way, this Chart Share is open to everyone —whether you’re an experienced Precision Teacher or new to the field, we'd love to have you! This informal, free event aims to bring people together and strengthen our scientific community. We recognize that everyone is at a different stage in becoming a competent Standard Celeration Charter—so there are absolutely no bad charts or stupid questions! We're happy to announce that we've released our third 'BQ' unit for the 2024-25 academic year. BQ3 asks, 'How is our understanding impacted by the way knowledge is communicated?', and the 15 classroom-ready lessons invite students to explore the relationship between the areas of knowledge, the optional and core themes, and the concept of 'spin'. Key thinkers we meet include Hilary Mantel, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Molly Crockett, Carl Sagan, and Donald Hoffman. Learning objectives for the 15 lessons of the unit include "I can discuss the way language acts as a gatekeeper of identity", "I can explain the dissonance between media coverage and reality - and how AI is affecting that", "I can assess the importance of scientific metaphors in helping us to understand the natural world", and "I can evaluate the importance of the arts in helping people to share their real-world experiences".
