What does a dirty table have to do with trust? If you see a glass on the table, walking down the lobby, do you walk by and let the F&B colleague know, or do you pick it up yourself and clean the table? I know many people would disagree with me and say – ‘hey, people need to learn’, or are fans of ‘learning through pain’ method – but, personally, I could not agree less with it. I believe our relationships with our colleagues must be based on trust – and, for me, the trust message here is simple – I trust you did not have time to do this yourself. I trust you were busy. I trust you are doing your best and – I trust it saves both of us time if I just do it, rather than waste the time in order to correct you. Even if you were on your phone in the back, answering your messages – I trust they were extremely important – we are all human and have families who sometimes need something urgently – and moreover, even if you were just ignoring the dirty table – I trust you know better than that. Believing in people brings out the best in them - our job is to show how, explain why and lead by example. Moreover, I believe this small gesture shows that nobody’s time is more important and puts focus on our mission – wonderful hospitality and happy guests.
