Army Ranger Wing soldiers win international special forces sniping competition The Army Ranger Wing team won the competition held in eastern Europe beating 26 other elite units By Michael O’Toole / The Irish Mirror These soldiers from Ireland's elite military unit have beaten off stiff competition from other special forces teams to win an international sniping contest. The Irish Mirror has learned that a team from the Army Ranger Wing came first in the competition held in eastern Europe – beating 26 other elite units along the way. The Special Operations Tactical Sniper Competition, held in Latvia last month, is reserved for so-called tier one units – each country’s most elite and secretive unit. The Defence Forces declined to say what other units faced off against the ARW in the five day competition, but confirmed they were from the United States, Canada and Europe. The date is not recognized nationally, but is recognized by a number of States, either through legislation or proclamation, and organizations. The stated goal of Women Veterans Day varies somewhat by state, but can generally be acknowledged as an effort to honor the work of women in the United States Armed Forces and recognize the unique challenges that they have faced. The date was first recognized when the New York State Assembly declared June 12, 2008, to be Women Veterans’ Recognition Day. While Women Veterans Day is currently only a state recognized commemoration, there is an effort to have the day recognized at a national level. U.S. Representative Mikie Sherrill of New Jersey introduced a resolution in both 2019 and 2020 to have June 12 officially recognized as "Women Veterans Appreciation Day." The purpose of the resolution is to address "the disparities in care, recognition and benefits that our women veterans receive" and to "highlight the growing presence of women in the Armed Forces and the National Guard; and pay respect to women veterans for their dutiful military service." In 2020, Senator Cory Booker submitted a companion resolution in the U.S. Senate.

I agree that education is not a retention tool and when you invest in the betterment of those who are the foundation for the successes and/or failures of the organization they are assigned to, you see much more successes than failures. The military is a temporary moment in one’s journey we call life and the military is investing in this person to ensure they are capable of adding to the successes of the military’s mission, no matter the branch. You want to have increased retention rates, increased morale, increased efficiency and effectiveness, more patriotism and admiration for military service, don’t look at service members as puppets, numbers, etc., and allow for people to feel as if their impact is greater than how they feel now. Education benefits are opportunities for service members to become a better version of themselves not only as service members, but as people. We can raise our right hand and swear to support and defend the constitution, but when it comes to looking not only on how we can become better versions of ourselves as soldiers, but as human being for our life after the military, that’s wrong and those opportunities are no longer going to be provided? The military is a small piece of the puzzle that is an individuals life and why punish them for realizing they’ve reached their potential within the military and decide to move on from it? If they’ve served honorably, allow them the chance to use TA or CA to set themselves up for success in the next chapter in their lives. I agree with Jonathan Lu that people should always come first because the wars and battles are won on the ground and in the “trenches”, not up in Washington D.C.
