Our team is thrilled to share the results of a groundbreaking AI scribe evaluation that we co-led alongside OntarioMD and Women's College Hospital Institute for Health System Solutions and Virtual Care (WIHV). Our joint project evaluating this technology has yielded promising results that could revolutionize the ways in which primary care operates. Key Findings: ?? 75.7% of participants (family doctors and nurse practitioners) reported reduced cognitive load during patient encounters when using an AI scribe. ?? Almost half (48%) perceived that the quality of care they delivered improved due to reduced cognitive fatigue. ?? On average, 3 to 4 hours per week were freed up for direct patient care. ?? 82.3% of participants expressed a desire to continue using AI scribes long-term. These results highlight a significant breakthrough in addressing the administrative burden that often hinders primary care professionals. By utilizing AI scribes, which capture and summarize patient interactions into detailed notes, doctors can focus more on what matters most: their patients. Why It Matters: With 2.5 million Ontarians currently without a family doctor and projections suggesting this number could rise to one in four by 2026, it’s crucial that we find innovative solutions to improve efficiency in primary care. AI scribes not only streamline documentation but also enhance the overall patient experience by reducing information overload and improving continuity of care through automated processes. Our mission at the eHealth Centre of Excellence is to support primary care by alleviating administrative pressures and promoting tools that enhance clinical workflows. This study reaffirms our commitment to empowering healthcare professionals with cutting-edge digital solutions that make a real difference.
