Against all odds. Yesterday was the Interswitch Group Career Fair 3rd edition focusing on reimagining work. It rained the night before till the next morning and I was at home considering if I should leave my comfort zone which was my house to attend the event or not. In the end, I did. I was not surprised when one of the speakers for the day Debola Deji-Kurumi emphasized that one begins to make real changes in life when one leaves his/her comfort zone and go that extra mile especially as the world is constantly evolving and new ideas and technologies are being birthed. Other things that resonated with me at the Fair: ~ I must be willing to pay the price If I want to be the best in my field.? ~ Have a plan of where I want to be and make sure I execute it. ~When transitioning from one career path to the other, you always have transferable skills like communication, and the ability to work with a team to leverage on.? ~ Stop backing out of opportunities because they look challenging ~At every point have a clear vision of where you are going ~You are not an irrelevant part of the value chain in any organization you find yourself. Remember that you are valuable, you are adding value to the organization otherwise you will not be there.? ~ Is what you are currently doing or want to do sustainable in the next 10 years? And finally from the MD of Interswitch: ~If you make a wrong move in your career, don't die there. There is room to re-strategize if facts tell you that you are wrong. Against all odds, I made it to the event, learned a lot, and networked with many people, just like I will continue to push forward in my career to be the best against all odds. Interswitch Career Fair 3.0 My Takeaways I spent last weekend with the inspiring interswitch career fair hosted by Interswitch group. A huge shoutouts to everyone at interswitch for creating a platform for #Reimaginingwork! It was truly an inspiring & time worth session, I really had a great time listening to the speakers and facilitators and also connecting with a great number of individuals. A key learning & insights; 1. A clear vision - you need to know where exactly you are headed or else you end up nowhere. 2. The sense of purpose a employee feels in an organization differs due to their proximity to the organization value 3. Habituation is a concept of comfort zones, you need to have a mindset of disabituation. 4. Work is spiritual, it is how people experience and perceive you as a person. 5. Prioritize learning over earning. 6. When you have a mission you don’t need permission 7. You have to be intentional about the value you are adding to an organization. If you are not adding value then you are just taking up space in the organization. Target being a top talent and high performing talent in any organization you find yourself. 9. When you are starting a business or products, make sure it’s solving a problem everyone can relate to. After listening to all this great insights, I can say I’m so prepared and motivated to see work differently and also put in more efforts to use all I’ve learnt to harness my career and contribute more value to the world at large. ?? Career Fair Takeaways: Gifts and Growth! ?? I recently went to a #CareerFair and won a #challenge with myself. ?? I found that it's not that hard to walk up to the booth and ask questions. I just have to take the first step. A simple trick I use is, don't walk straight up to a person, just walk to a QR code and scan it. ?? Next, I'll just ask the question which come across my mind. It become easy afterwards. I made a whole round around the career fair and talk to way more people than expected. ?? ??The limitation is that I didn't ask much questions to go in depth and to learn more about the role and field I'm interested in.
