Sand Dumping Violation Warning. In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene residents are asked to adhere to rules regarding post-storm surge sand dumping. The sand on private property must be handled differently than the sand on public property, and it cannot be returned directly to the shoreline. There are environmental considerations that govern sand sifting, decontamination, testing, placement, the removal of loose sand; as well as the disposal of sandbags. There are different compliance and environmental considerations for wet, dry, and used sand. Check your local government website for cleanup updates. And always, please use caution because debris, including nails or sharp objects, can be mixed in with the sand.

Real World Indoor Environment : After a hurricane cleanup, you walk into a mold remediation area and only see scrubbers blowing, with no advanced steps being taken. Should we even bother pulling out the testing equipment? Can we charge a fee to provide a quick educational course on the importance of creating proper negative air pressure and taking more effective remediation steps?

?? Project Spotlight: Large Tree Removal for Hurricane Cleanup! ?? After recent storms, our team took on a critical tree removal project to restore safety and ensure uninterrupted access to a pipeline right-of-way in Southeast Texas. Clearing hurricane-affected areas requires precision, skill, and care. Our experienced crew follows best practices to efficiently remove large trees while protecting the surrounding environment. Why Professional Right-of-Way Tree Removal Matters: Improved Safety: Mitigates the risk of fallen or weakened trees in critical infrastructure zones. Restored Access: Ensures safe and quick access for pipeline maintenance and inspection crews. Environmental Responsibility: We handle debris responsibly, using eco-friendly disposal practices to minimize environmental impact. If your right-of-way needs clearing after a storm, trust us to restore access and keep your operations running smoothly. #RightOfWayClearing #HurricaneCleanup #PipelineMaintenance #SoutheastTexas #StrongholdTexas

Interesting questions to ponder here from Rob Young, PhD, PG on #coastaladaptation. Where are #adaptation and #resilience measures actually working? What are the metrics that we have in place or need in place to measure effectiveness? We had a chance to discuss some of these questions on the most recent Triple Point? Podcast. https://lnkd.in/g5sQ22Qr
Southern Louisiana is the nation's laboratory for coastal projects designed to create habitat and provide storm/flood protection. They are throwing all the spaghetti at the fridge to see what sticks (that metaphor probably doesn't translate well). This year, they propose to spend $1.7 billion on all kinds of projects: from river diversions to marsh creation. They have constructed tens of kilometers of barrier islands. Here is my question. Can anyone tell me which of these projects have provided the most storm protection? Which projects are reducing storm surge and by how much? Are any projects simply not working as hoped? Disappearing quickly? Providing no measurable storm protection benefits? Can we rank the projects built over the last ten years by cost effectiveness? Which projects have provided the most storm protection for the least amount of money? Significant spending goes into design and compliance for this work, but I fear we are not spending enough on the back end understanding what is working and what is not. Hurricane Ida still buried Plaquemines and St Bernard Parishes. Folks lost their homes and shrimp boats. How can we spend tens of billions on future projects if we are not providing an honest assessment of those already completed? I apologize if I have missed that detailed analysis. Please share if I have. This is not to call into question the work in Louisiana. I am simply asking of we are learning all we need to learn to guide future projects and to be able to speak honestly to the people of southern Louisiana about what can be accomplished. #PSDS #Louisiana #CPRA #coastalprotection #coastalrestoration #itsthepeople #monitor #canwepromisestromsurgereduction https://lnkd.in/e-WdYV92

Last week, Route 1 along the Indian River Inlet flooded for the second time this season. Coastal Highway is the main evacuation route for Delaware's southeastern towns, and with two flooding incidents this early in hurricane season, our coastal communities are left vulnerable and in need of immediate action. While it's possible to obtain emergency federal authorization to repair the dunes and prevent future washouts, securing federal funding is less clear. This project is a priority, and waiting and hoping for federal dollars might not be the best course. One option would be to use state funds allocated for dredging to fund this critical IR Inlet project, but that would pull money from equally important dredging projects along our Inland Bays. We are continuing to aggressively explore all options to expedite this process before the worst of hurricane season reaches our coastlines, without jeopardizing other dredging projects; this includes securing funding for this new effort. Delaware is the lowest lying state in the US, and we are seeing firsthand the effects of climate change. We have to work efficiently and collaboratively with all of our partners to address these environmental issues both in the short term and long term to keep our coastal towns safe. As South Louisiana faces the threat of a hurricane, it serves as a great reminder of the importance of properly installed erosion control devices on all construction sites. Heavy rains can lead to high pollutant discharge and detrimental construction runoff if your ECD’s are not compliant with your SWPPP. Don’t get stuck in a messy situation, get your erosion control done right the first time with Lamay Group.

*ATTENTION* Boil water notices have been issued for the following public water systems after power outages across the region following Hurricane Beryl, which hit the Texas coast early Monday: - Harris County Municipal Utility District 421, Harris County Fresh Water Supply District 45, and the Western Trails Subdivision water system - In Montgomery County, the Oakwood, Decker Hills and Crystal Springs water systems - Polk County's Longhorn Valley and Garden Acres Subdivision water systems To ensure the destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice-making should be boiled and cooled before use for drinking water or human consumption. Water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes. ?? In Florida, a 6-mile highway used for hurricane evacuations is threatened by waves, rising tides, and severe storms. The Apalachee Regional Planning Council found that using 20 acres of engineered oyster reefs and up to 30 acres of salt marshes works better than artificial seawalls or concrete blocks. Natural habitats – like oyster reefs and salt marshes – can fix themselves from wave damage. These nature-based solutions also reduce the wave impacts, helping the environment, restoring oyster fisheries, and strengthening the shoreline. Find out more about the project ?? https://ow.ly/HHAT50P1BRk
