The second global Women in Maritime Survey is being conducted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in conjunction with the Women's International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA International ). The data provided by the survey will assist in creating programs and proposing policies that will increase the participation of women in the maritime sector, thus supporting the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Bahamas Shipowners Association (BSA) is a firm supporter of initiatives promoting diversity and inclusivity in the maritime sector. In this context, the BSA reminds its members to take part and promote the survey. The Women in Maritime Survey opened in September and will run up to December 2024, while the final Report will be published in May 2025. Women make up just 2% of seafarers and less than 30% of the maritime workforce, according to 2021 research conducted by the IMO and the Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA). The demand is for a greater number of women to venture out on the seas to navigate, invent, and influence the direction of the marine industry.
