Spotify’s market cap over the three-month period increased, to $72.2bn from $62.5bn. UMG remained in second place, but the company’s market share was down, to 21.8% from 24.7%. For the first time ever, Spotify has released our annual Loud & Clear report in Denmark, revealing a highly positive trend in the music industry. * In 2023, Danish artists generated over 311 million DKK in royalties from Spotify alone. This is an increase of more than 75% since 2017 * 111 artists generated more than 500,000 DKK each from Spotify in 2023. The amount of artists has grown over 60% since 2018 * The number of Danish artists that has generated more than 500.000 DKK in royalties from Spotify alone has increased over 60% since 2018. *38% of all royalties generated by Danish artists in 2023 were from independent artists or independent labels. * Almost 45% of all royalties generated by Danish artists on Spotify in 2023 came from listeners outside Denmark.

According to new analysis from Omdia, Spotify increased its market share of the leading music companies’ combined market capitalization in the final quarter of 2024. After overtaking UMG to become the biggest music industry company in the second quarter, Omdia’s Music Industry Sharewatch, 4Q24 has revealed that Spotify’s market share of the 28 companies tracked ended December at 38.3%, up from 32.9% at the end of September. Spotify’s market cap over the three-month period increased, to $90.4bn from $72.2bn. UMG remained in second place, but the company’s market share was down, to 19.8% from 21.8%. Third-placed Live Nation saw its share edge up, to 12.6% from 11.6%.

“The amount of royalties generated by European Union artists on Spotify has tripled in the past six years, and listeners’ tastes are becoming increasingly local. So says Spotify’s inaugural European Union-focuded Loud & Clear report, which for the first time breaks down Spotify listener and royalty data specifically for the European Union. The report found that, in 2023, European Union artists generated almost EUR €1.5 billion (USD $1.62 billion at the average exchange rate in 2023) in royalties on Spotify’s platform, a 16% YoY increase, and triple the number six years earlier, in 2017. The report also found that listeners’ tastes are becoming increasingly local, with 44% of the royalties generated in the EU going to EU artists.
