Re: Company offsites - question for anyone who this resonates with and would like to chime in please ?? Offsites are jam packed with fun and excitement. Bringing together a largely remote company who do such great?work together is a lot like meeting up with old friends you haven't seen in a while. At Nory our offsites usually comprise individual team workshops, company wide workshops?and a lot of fun team building activities. Right now I'm doing a deep dive on epic company wide workshops (for 40 people). We are?looking for exercises that touch on the following: - Getting Nory team members informed and bought in for the next 18 months of our journey - Getting everyone on the same page. We have multiple teams who strive for the same mission - building the?OS the restaurant industry deserves. How does a product engineer know what a CSM's top priorities are when they join a call with a new customer for the first?time? How does a sales rep know what our product team considers when deciding which prospect requests do (and don't) make it onto our roadmap? Cross org understanding and communication decides whether we are disparate energies going in our own directions, or one team tackling challenges together. So what do I want to know? Have you ever done an epic team building exercise that brought everyone onto the same page? If so, I'd love to hear from you, be it sharing an article or a quick chat! I'd be super grateful for all inputs, and would be more than happy to return the favour in any way I can :)?

The little things count! Yesterday there was a slight 'hiccup' at West Peak which was quickly sorted, nobody died, and all is now well! But what it showed is that the team are 100% living our values! ?? Because once the problem got sorted, soon after a bucket of beers arrived at my hotel room and a bunch of flowers at home for my wife from the team! Love that! ?? Awesome examples of accountability and empathy from Jo Murphy and the team! It's the little things that makes great teams great! ?? #leadershipdevelopment

This week Grads of Life hosted an interactive discussion with cross-sector leaders on the value and ROI of skills-first talent practices. Insights centered on: 1) Buy-in for skills-first transformation cannot just be at the C-suite (whether CHRO/CDO/CEO) but across the top/bottom and all levels of the organization. 2) To have skills-first commitments move to action – ROI metrics and stories must be tailored to change agents across the organization. Still basking in the afterglow of having the whole company in town for offsites. We can debate ad nauseam about remote vs hybrid vs in-person, but here are?a few reflections I hold deeply to be true as I reintegrate my experience: ?? People are the single most important thing that determine whether companies succeed & fail. We say this a lot at gem. It's why our mission is to help companies build great teams. But I always live & feel this the most deeply in my core when I get to spend time in person with the whole team. ?? Getting together in-person is crucial for building culture, connection, and trust. Especially when some folks are remote. There's simply no substitute for face-to-face time. ?? For generative & creative work (brainstorms, offsites, etc.), there's something special about doing that in person, and seeing the ideas spark & fly. Folks chiming in without having to worry so much about coming off mute or awkwardly speaking over each other. ?? "Watercooler" moments are real. I learned 2 new things about our customers in just 2-3 minutes talking to an Enterprise AE and a CSM in the kitchen who were visiting from out of town. And the three of us feel closer for it. Gets me thinking about whether it's even possible to recreate this virtually somehow??? For now though, I'm just excited to continue getting the entire company together every quarter, because magic happens when we're all together in person. This was such a phenomenal week, and I couldn't be more grateful to Samuel Rhyan?, Grace Lancaster?, and?Lindsey Ackerman? and so many more for making it possible!?

Associates Week Day 4 wrap up - We are common people doing uncommon things Today I participated in the most bizarre business meeting of my career. We (Canadian team) had a 2.5 hours meeting with our C-level team, part of it dedicated to a Q&A session. I was expecting shop talk. Oh boy, I was wrong. The meeting was about personal histories. They shared theirs, a bunch of us shared ours. A reminder of what we all are - people trying to do their best, succeeding sometimes, failing sometimes, needing encouragement when we feel afraid, feeling the pressure of multiple demands and the excitement of helping other people grow; we are in paths that are not the result of a well defined plan, but are forged as we go and life happens. #shareholders2024 #shareholdersCA2024

Blast Off!?? This year we transitioned our annual year-end Christmas meeting to a January Blast off event—and what a great way to kick off the year. I always leave our meetings revitalized and overwhelmingly grateful to be a part of such an incredible company. There are not many CEOs who begin the yearly recap, not by talking about margins or profits, but about how much the company gave back ($270k last year!). AND that our goals for growth are not based on profit but how much we can affect change in other people's lives as we continue to grow.
