Honoring Our Heroes on Veterans Day On Veterans Day, we pay tribute to the brave men and women who have selflessly served in our nation's armed forces. Let's take a moment to explore the history and significance of this special day. Veterans Day is a federal holiday observed on November 11th of each year to honor all of America's veterans who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Today, we celebrate and give thanks to all veterans for their service, sacrifices, courage, patriotism, and love of this country. Veterans Day is linked to the "Great War" or World War I, which ended on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918. Originally, the holiday commemorated the armistice or cease-fire day that ended World War I between the Allies and Germany. President Wilson commemorated this day as Armistice Day on November 11, 1919. Armistice Day officially was ended by President Dwight Eisenhower in 1954, and it became Veterans Day to commemorate American veterans of all wars. As we commemorate this day, we express our deepest gratitude to veterans for their service, valor, and resilience. We recognize the transferable skills and qualities they bring to the workforce. California Government Code section 12940 makes it unlawful for an employer to discriminate against or harass an employee because of their military or veteran status. In the unfortunate circumstance where veterans are subjected to discrimination or harassment in the workplace, our firm takes tremendous pride in advocating on their behalves. If you worked in California and believe you were subjected to discrimination or harassment at work because of your military or veteran status, contact us for a free case review at (424) 334-3194. As a proud Military Veteran, I want to take this moment on Veteran's Day to honor the 18 million living U.S. military veterans. These exceptional men and women, representing roughly 5% of the U.S. population, are part of an elite and selfless group who willingly volunteered to step into harm’s way so others could remain safe. Veterans come from every background, each bringing a unique set of experiences, strengths, and perspectives shaped by service and sacrifice. They volunteered to put duty above self, and in doing so, they gave the rest of us the freedom to pursue our careers, raise our families, and live our lives. When they transitioned back into civilian life, many of them faced, and in some cases continue to face, new sets of challenges—the cultural shift to Corporate America. Navigating the language of business, adjusting to new workplace dynamics, and building professional networks are hurdles they know all too well. It’s not always easy, and it’s not always seamless. Today, let’s not only thank Veterans for their service but recognize the dedication they bring to every role they take on and the responsibility we have to help them make a full and healthy transition. Let’s support Veterans as they continue to grow, adapt, and lead in the business world—because the qualities that made them outstanding service members make them invaluable colleagues, mentors, and leaders in every industry. Thank you, Veterans. We owe you our respect, our support, and our gratitude every day. #VeteransDay #ThankYouVeterans #MilitaryToCivilian #VeteransInBusiness #VeteranLeadership #ServiceAndSacrifice #VeteranTransition #CorporateLeadership #GratefulNation #HireAVeteran #VeteranEmpowerment

For this Veterans Day, we asked fellow members of the WorkSource Georgia team to answer the question, "What does Veteran's Day mean to me?". In the coming days we will be highlighting some of their stories and insights from those that served and those that know someone that served. "To me, Veterans Day stands as the second most significant federal holiday, right after Memorial Day. While Memorial Day solemnly honors the service members who gave their lives for our country, Veterans Day is dedicated to celebrating those who have served and continue to enrich our lives. Although these brave individuals have made it home, many have not emerged from their experiences entirely unscathed. Veterans share common experiences unique to military life; however, each individual’s journey is distinct. Some carry visible reminders of their service, while others bear the weight of mental scars, and many endure a combination of both. On Veterans Day, communities across the United States come together to express their gratitude in various ways, such as hosting parades and other local events. Many businesses join in by displaying messages of thanks or offering discounts to veterans. Some communities even organize initiatives aimed at providing essential resources and services for veterans in need. Additionally, Veterans Day serves as an important reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by many veterans who have not yet received the support they deserve and need. For me, Veterans Day holds profound meaning, as it not only fosters appreciation but also promotes the well-being of those who have bravely served our nation." - Bryndan Chaney, OWD JVSG team member #worksourcegeorgia #worksourcega #worksourcevets #veteransday2024 #veteransday #veterans #georgiaveterans #georgiavets #jvsg

Today, we pause to honor and express our deepest gratitude to all who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Veterans Day is not just a date on the calendar; it's a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by brave men and women to protect our freedoms and way of life. To our veterans: Your unwavering dedication, courage, and selflessness have shaped the very foundation of our nation. You've stood on the front lines, far from home, ensuring that we can live in peace and prosperity. Your service embodies the highest ideals of duty, honor, and country. As we reflect on the significance of this day, let's remember that our veterans deserve more than just our thanks – they deserve our ongoing support and recognition. Whether it's through volunteering at local VA hospitals, supporting veteran-owned businesses, or simply taking the time to listen to their stories, there are countless ways we can show our appreciation. To the employers and colleagues of veterans: Let's continue to create inclusive workplaces that value the unique skills and perspectives that veterans bring to our teams. Their leadership, discipline, and ability to perform under pressure are invaluable assets in any organization. Today, I encourage everyone to take a moment to reach out to a veteran in your life – a family member, friend, or colleague – and express your gratitude. Share a story of how their service has impacted you or simply say, "Thank you for your service." These small gestures can mean the world to those who have given so much. Let's not limit our appreciation to just one day. Veterans Day serves as a powerful reminder to honor and support our veterans throughout the year. Their legacy of loyalty and service continues to inspire us all. To all veterans: Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and for being the embodiment of true American heroes. Your contributions will never be forgotten. #VeteransDay #HonorOurHeroes

The Coastal Empire is home to important Army installations, including U.S. Army Garrison Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield. Down here, we are a heavy military community, both active duty and veteran. Veterans are not only going to be a key part of the growing labor talent needs in the region, but there are several prominent examples of founder/CEOs who have built multi-million dollar corporations. Buck Holly shared some insights on why that is for C&H Precision and others on Good Morning, Market this week. https://lnkd.in/e9UxrdZC Why do you believe many veterans thrive as entrepreneurs? Is this the exception or the rule? I'll say that there are some really strong veteran-founded companies in my home community. #veteranbusiness #veteranowned #smallbusinesspodcast #scaleyourbusiness

Today, we honor the bravery and sacrifices made by all who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Veterans Day is a time to express gratitude for the commitment and selflessness of those who have defended our freedoms and protected our nation. To all veterans: Thank you for your service and the immense value you bring to our communities and workplaces. In recognition of Veterans Day I’d like to share the following ways we can support former military employees in our workplaces: 1. Recognize and Translate Military Skills: Take the time to understand how military roles translate to business skills. Support veterans by offering resources that match their experiences with civilian job functions. 2. Provide Flexibility and Support: Be mindful of the challenges that can come with transitioning from military to civilian work life. Flexible schedules and comprehensive mental health resources can make a big difference. 3. Celebrate Their Background: Create opportunities for veterans to share their experiences and leadership lessons. Consider hosting events or starting a veterans’ network to strengthen bonds and elevate their voices. Inclusivity empowers everyone, and as we move forward, let’s continue finding ways to better honor and support our veteran colleagues. #VeteransDay #ThankYouForYourService #WorkplaceInclusion #DiversityEquityandInclusion #DiversityMatters #InclusionMatters #EquityMatters

Is it a time issue, a lack of information, or something else? Have you had any positive or negative experiences with VSOs that have influenced your decision? Let's have an open and honest conversation about how we can connect, support, and strengthen our veteran community. Your insights could help us all find better ways to support each other.
