Granite quarrying and finishing involve precise extraction, cutting, and polishing, transforming raw blocks into high-quality construction materials. Granite quarrying involves extracting large blocks of granite from the earth. The process begins with drilling holes around the desired block's perimeter, followed by splitting the stone using controlled blasting or hydraulic splitters. Once extracted, the blocks are transported to processing facilities, where they are cut into slabs using diamond wire saws or gang saws. The slabs are then polished using rotating pads with abrasive compounds, creating a smooth, glossy surface. Additional finishes like honing, flamed, or brushed textures can be applied depending on the desired look. The finished granite is then ready for use in construction and decorative applications. video rights : Global Granites #granite #interior #architecture #engineering #civilengineering #construction #civilconstruction #engenharia #engenhariacivil

"Mastering Marble: Perfectly Laying Premium marble slabs with Precision and Care" Surface Preparation: Ensure the subfloor is clean, level, and dry. Use a high-quality waterproof membrane to prevent moisture issues. Layout Planning: Plan the layout carefully, considering vein patterns and symmetry. Dry-lay the slabs to visualize and make necessary adjustments. Handling with Vacuum Lifters: Use vacuum lifters to safely transport and position heavy slabs, preventing damage and ensuring precise placement. Adhesive Application: Use a suitable thin-set mortar or adhesive for marble. Apply evenly with a notched trowel. Setting the Slabs: Place each slab gently, pressing firmly to ensure full contact with the adhesive. Use spacers for uniform grout lines. #marble #flooring #engineering #architecture #building #construction #civilengineering #civilconstruction #engenharia #engenhariacivil

Are those chunks of sugar crumbling? Today Xsusha Arogunmati, FAIC, APT-RP talks about consolidation. What are the advantages and limitations of consolidation, what kind of life extension can we expect, and what might be misunderstood about consolidation by a novice? XA: Consolidation is when you apply a chemically reactive liquid to the surface of a stone that is experiencing severe surface deterioration—sometimes called “sugaring” where it is crumbling apart—like sugar granules. Depending on the product and the masonry type (i.e. marble or sandstone) the consolidant will cause the surface of the masonry grains to “grow” small spines that then interlock—thereby tying the grains back together. It only penetrates millimeters and is not a way to salvage a stone with severe structural deterioration. Consolidation is something that should not be done without the assistance of an architectural conservator. A conservator can help determine how effective the treatment will be and how it may or not help the situation over the long term. The life span of the treatment is highly site specific. #AskAConservator #CANY #nyc #nycarchitecture #buildingconservation #architecture

From Quarry to Finish: The Cutting and Processing Journey of Marble and Granite. Cutting marble and granite from quarries involves extracting large blocks of stone, which are then processed into slabs for commercial use. The extraction process typically begins with drilling holes around the desired block. Wire saws or diamond-tipped blades are used to cut the stone cleanly from the quarry face. Once removed, the blocks are transported to processing facilities, where they are cut into thinner slabs using gang saws or block cutters. These slabs are polished to achieve the desired finish and then sized for various applications. Precision cutting and polishing techniques enhance the natural beauty of the stone, making marble and granite highly sought-after materials for countertops, flooring, and decorative construction. video rights : Respective owners DM for removal/credits #marble #granite #flooring #architecture #architect #engineer #civilengineer #construction #civilengineering #civilconstruction #engenharia #engenhariacivil #engenheiro #engenheirocivil #ingeniero #ingenierocivil

The design of contemporary cavity wall assemblies is the result of a century of trial and error. In this The Construction Specifier article, SGH's Danielle DiDomizio, P.E., Amarantha Quintana-Morales, and Matt Normandeau discuss the early veneer wall systems constructed during the transition from mass masonry walls to modern, “four-barrier” assemblies, and the resulting issues that sometimes require extensive building enclosure upgrades. #buildingenclosure #walls
