This latest "Workstand Wednesday" video walks you through the process of cleaning your chain and applying a wax lube—a great example of organic product placement in action. While I love making trail videos, the how-to series tends to have long-term value. Even after the algorithm moves on, these tutorials get solid reach and are great for search. If you're a brand interested in featuring your product in an upcoming video (plus receiving social content edits for your own use), reach out - let’s collaborate. #ContentCreation #ProductPlacement #VideoProduction #CyclingCommunity #VideoMarketing #HowTo

686's ATLAS, A Year Later: Big Gamble, Big Rewards Risk-taking is in our DNA at 686, but this was a whole new level. Here’s a recap on the internal works of this big bet: ??Act Stupid: Inspired by Diesel founder Renzo Rosso’s “Be Stupid,” we set out to push limits, think big, and yes, even be a little stupid. We focused on what we wanted to create rather than limitations, a complete shift of mentality for a risk-adverse brand. ?? "What if?": Specifically, "What if we could get Tommy Gesme on and get Colton Feldman to create a video project alongside of it?" A question posed by Riley Nickerson & Forest Bailey during a dinner after a photo shoot quickly turned into action with the support and work of Patrick McCarthy. ?? Biggest Spend in 686 History: The combination of rider contract and film budget was the largest budget we’d ever committed to for a single content piece and campaign. Would it have been approved in the past? Probably not. But with the right support, we were able to go all in. ?? Giving Up Creative Control: Colton, Tommy, Forrest, and Riley had full creative freedom and pulled in Darrah Reid McLean to bring the vision to life, all captured by photographer Erik Hoffman. Internal was responsible for title (George Covalla) and rollout (Paige Smith, Natalie Generalovich) only. ?? Over budget: As we hit our initial budget limit, we made the decision that it was even more irresponsible to stop filming. We found line items that we could trim back in order to keep production moving forward, which included a final trip to 686 Headquarters to capture behind the scenes for the Raw and Rider Commentary video. ?? Feedback on themes, not shots: When providing feedback in the final stage, feedback from myself to Colton was never about a single shot. It was merely thematic - "we need more friendship, need more travel." Multiple back and forth conversations that lasted hours with Colton but for every question, he had a perspective and a strategy. Travel was satisfied with the name and friendship came in the final shot. ?? Meaningful launch campaign: Strategic social IRL moments that supported retail partners and DTC initiatives. Teasers utilized team iphone clips, creating a unique UGC style ecosystem. We attached the film to existing events and key retail partners. The Results: ?? Large and small scale events with key retail partners that re-positioned brand ???? Short Film of the Year awards—times two! ?? Year-over-year growth on 686.com, exceeding snow forecasts ?? Key products featured in the film were sold out before Black Friday ?? New team riders were engaged, with a revamped brand image in snowboarding and ski culture ?? Momentum on fire: We continue to see 686.com outpace expectations in the snow category, without a feature project this season. We didn’t just sell products. We sold the brand. This one’s for the bold & the boundary-pushers.?

I read a couple of quotes out here on LinkedIn. Quote #1: Direct Mail and Paid Search, Like Peanut Butter & Jelly. Quote #2: Direct Mail has always worked. If LinkedIn existed in 1915, somebody would have written a thought leadership piece about the Horse & Buggy or the Covered Wagon. "The Horse & Buggy has always worked, it still works. Of course, you need a trusted partner to make it work better. Be wise about the person who shoes your horse." Look up a few images of cities in 1910 ... horses and cars. Now look at images of cities in 1920. The transformation is undeniable. The number of horses on NYC streets dropped from 128,000 a decade earlier to just 56,000 (https://lnkd.in/g8gksVfZ). So yes, the LinkedIn Thought Leader of 1915 would be right. The Horse & Buggy still worked. Absolutely. It never stopped working. Does Direct Mail still work? Absolutely! My project work proves it. And yet, I have client data that shows a dramatic transition over the past twenty years, a breathtaking transition when viewed over time, one not fundamentally different than what happened to cities between 1910 and 1920. As you thumb through history, you'll see horses in cities in the 1920s and 1930s. Just fewer and fewer of them, until they essentially didn't exist. Think about what happened to typewriters. LP Records. CDs. Plasma Televisions. Dial-Up Internet. All still work today. Transition is hard. I had to do it. More than 70% of my post-COVID projects are merchandise-centric projects. Prior to 2013, nearly all of my projects were direct-mail-centric projects. And yet, my pre-2013 projects "still work" in spite of dramatically fewer people asking me to implement that style of work. It might be that you've walked your brand into a cul-de-sac ... you now have 300,000 twelve-month buyers and 240,000 of 'em are direct-mail centric customers. I see it all the time. You are trapped. For everybody else, business is always about transitioning from what you used to do to what you will do tomorrow. You transition your products/merchandise every day without thinking twice about it. The same thing applies to your marketing tactics. We seem to hang on to marketing tactics longer than we hang on to what we sell. Thoughts?

Time for a little honesty. You may have seen a LinkedIn update indicating I had started a new role at Golf Bizz Review, which is not actually accurate. I have been working on this project with the owner of Golf Bizz Review for nearly a year now, and we went fully live at the beginning of March this year. Golf Bizz Review is based on Substack and provides a weekly newsletter covering all the business stories related to golf. Fundamentally, the newsletter is aimed at professionals who work within the golf industry. However, anybody who is interested in the money involved in the world of golf can sign up and subscribe. You can click on the link below to see what we cover. This is an exciting project because we are building something from scratch, and we are up against some strong competition. However, this is one of the reasons why I went into the freelance world in the first place was to build a brand from scratch and make it successful. So, apologies for any confusion; I was doing some LinkedIn spring cleaning over the weekend, and I really don't know why a notification was sent out saying I started a new position! #freelancewriter #golfbusiness #golfbizzreview https://lnkd.in/eNavGzVS
