We’re delighted to announce that RESNET's HERS H2O and EPA WaterSense programs are now available in beta in Ekotrope RATER! The HERS H2O program defines the calculation of the Water Rating Index. This index estimates the water consumption of a home relative to a reference home, as defined in ANSI 850-2020. To certify a home using the EPA WaterSense certification, a maximum Water Rating Index value must be guaranteed. Raters can simply conduct a water inspection in the house and input the relevant data into an Ekotrope building model. Ekotrope already provides solutions to build energy-efficient buildings. With this release, we want to contribute towards building more water-efficient homes! If you want to learn more about this new initiative, please contact us at?[email protected].

Why Stack Effect and Wind Impacts are important? It’s a matter of life safety - in high-rise buildings, the primary aim of smoke ventilation systems is to keep the escape routes clear from smoke, stack effect may prevent this. Discover more about the concept of stack effect, design considerations and how stack effect and wind impact smoke ventilation systems with this free informative guide by Steven Attrill, NOVENCO Building & Industry: https://lnkd.in/geD8kUR

An excellent preliminary airtightness test result received today. More exceptional work from Niall Dolan and his Greentec team - comfortably exceeding the airtightness requirement for this new #passivhaus home! Our #PHPP modelling estimates the resultant energy efficiency improvement from the 0.6 ACH minimum #passivehouse airtightness standard to 0.28 ACH will reduce the heating demand of this home by c.12% (1.6kWh/m2/yr) with almost no #embodiedcarbon implication - a Whole Life Carbon (WLC) win arising from great workmanship. The heat load is reduced also to the extent that leaner embodied carbon heating options can be considered. Maybe we need to give much more consideration to the role of excellent workmanship in reducing #WLC of buildings. Good morning! This week I've posted this request to the CIBSE Retrofit in Heritage Committee and I realise that there might be wider interest. Is anyone here interested in the air tightness of older buildings and how this can impact heat losses, plant sizing and utility supplies? I'm planning on creating an open source database of how older buildings perform. The idea behind this is that test companies and designers can help to populate this data and we can all learn more about how they perform to inform retrofit projects. Hopefully this will help designers to transition away from estimating infiltration which can sometimes result in oversized plant and heating systems. At this early stage it would be good if you could take a moment to review the draft database. I'm particularly interested to hear in the comments if you have any ideas for other useful building criteria that would be worthwhile recording. Thanks! And for anyone wanting to join the CIBSE Retrofit in Heritage Committee's LinkedIn group page where you can watch recordings?of previous webinars: https://lnkd.in/e-eA4QCx

BASIX and NatHERS - What is it and how can we help? Introduced under the NSW Government's Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, BASIX (The Building Sustainability Index) aims to mitigate water usage and greenhouse gas emissions. It is complemented by the Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS), which evaluates the thermal efficiency of homes across Australia through a star rating system. Our team of NatHERS-accredited consultants, leverage cutting-edge HERO (Home Energy Rating and Optimisation) modelling software to suggest glazing and insulation solutions without compromising on practicality or the implications of BASIX and NatHERS standards. The effectiveness of a dwelling's NatHERS rating is influenced by various factors, including its orientation, layout, shading, ventilation, and the materials used in construction. Prioritising value engineering and buildability, we ensure each project is accompanied by a comprehensive summary that clearly explains the water, energy, and thermal comfort commitments, enhancing client understanding. “Heat networks will only succeed if they are competitive on cost and carbon compared with the customer’s alternative solutions,” says Justin Etherington, Director, Buro Happold in this recent CIBSE article. Justin also emphasises the necessity of complementary government initiatives including technical standards, policy support, and regulatory oversight by Ofgem to instil confidence in the sector. The UK government is aiming for 11% of heat in the UK to be supplied by heat networks within newly designated heat zones. Proposals have been published for Heat Network Zoning ahead of plans to introduce heat network technical standards and mandate the connection of certain buildings by 2025. This article provides key insights into the proposals including those related to emissions limits while exploring the routes to connection in the new Heat Network Zoning consultation. This month we received very interesting study results from the Swedish construction and building maintenance business! ?? Our survey group consisted of 100 decision makers and experts in roof maintenance and roof inspection sectors who have the authority to make renovation decisions. The study was conducted over the phone by a third-party company to further study the market and to find out how interesting our VILPE Sense smart roof system is. ???????????? Interesting results include: 49 % of all participating professionals considered our smart roof system interesting or very interesting. ?? 38 % of all participants would likely or very likely include our system in their projects when explained the costs. ? 25 % of all participants think that a monitoring system should be mandatory on a roof. ?? These results point to a huge unrealized market potential for bringing roofs to the same total building automation systems as energy, water, ventilation etc. ?? We'll publish a more complete white paper about the study in the coming months and we are already planning our next market survey. We are also continuing our scientific smart roof research with third parties as well as our internal VILPE Sense R&D. We'll have so much material coming out this spring that we are actually expanding our communications team (lucky for me! ??). Stay tuned! Major announcements coming soon ?? #vilpe #vilpesense #smartroof #buildingautomation #predictivemaintenance #roofleak #roofing #roofingcontractor #tak #smartcities #facilitiesmanagement #facilitymanager #realestate
