The MIT Advanced Vehicle Technology (AVT) Consortium is at the forefront of research on driver interactions with assisted and automated vehicles (AVs). Established in 2015, the consortium fosters a global collaboration between academia and industry to develop a data-driven understanding of consumer attitudes and driving behaviors related to emerging vehicle technologies. This initiative has produced extensive datasets that provide insights into driver behavior, system performance, and the impact of technology on real-world driving, ultimately influencing the future of transportation. Bryan Reimer, the consortium's founder, emphasizes that cultivating public trust in AI is crucial for the adoption of AVs. He notes that trust must be built through reliable user experiences, not merely interest in the technology. A recent Mobility Confidence Index Study, conducted with J.D. Power, indicates a modest increase in public readiness for AVs, highlighting the importance of understanding driver interactions with these systems to foster lasting trust. The AVT Consortium collects real-world data on driver interactions across various demographics, forming one of the largest datasets in this field. This research aims …
