Egis designed and constructed a six-span, pre-stressed concrete U-Beam bridge that spans approximately 695 feet and serves as the most traveled bridge in Madison County, Indiana. This essential structure not only enhances connectivity, but also ensures safety for all road users.? ?? The bridge, which opened to traffic in June 2019, features four 12-foot lanes, two 5-foot outside shoulders, two 1-foot inside shoulders, an 8-inch tall raised median, all bordered by 6-foot sidewalks, and interior and exterior bridge railing.? ?? This project exemplifies Egis’ commitment to innovation and excellence in civil engineering. “Bridges to the Future” was the guiding vision for the design of the Port Lands Bridges by #sbp, Grimshaw and Entuitive. The family of four new multimodal #bridges opened to the public earlier this year and are central to the revitalization of 500 acres of once-underutilized land overseen by Waterfront Toronto. Using the principle of a tied arch made of double-curved steel plates was a key element of this innovative concept – thus, not only maximizing material #efficiency and reducing costs, but also overcoming key challenges such as foundation constraints due to challenging soil conditions.
