We’ve made history, and we didn’t even need to get dressed to do it. 88 Minerva's Virtual Academy students were some of the first in the world to take their GCSE exams entirely remotely. No freezing sports hall with the weird smell. No counting the bricks if you finish early. No getting distracted because someone three rows back can’t stop coughing. Exams are meant to be a test of your knowledge and ability, not how bearable the facilities you’re sitting in are. The students are required to have multiple cameras pointed at them throughout and are kept under close watch to ensure no cheating (I’d argue it’s more effective than two or three people physically patrolling a room!). Still, they’re free to get comfy and focus in a space they know. And I seriously think traditional schools will be adopting this approach sooner than you think. We all get nervous before a big test – why put certain kids at a disadvantage by making them do it in an environment where they feel uncomfortable?
