We must understand what we are signing up for.

Is succession planning perfect in agriculture? No. Is restricting relief on inheritance tax to ￡1m the way to do it? Absolutely not. Even with the 10 years interest free payments on the tax, where on earth will small family farms find the money? We need to remember the relief was introduced as a way to preserve family farming and UK food security. Its all well and good saying “just hand over the farm 7 years before you die and you’ll avoid it” but since when did death come with a notice? In what other industry would an individual be expected to hand over their business at say 50 despite the fact farmers will work well into retirement both out of passion and necessity? I saw a touching post refer to generational farming as how farmers were simply stewards of the land for those coming after them. Farms are asset rich and cash poor. Paying massive bills requires sales of those assets - the issue being those assets are what keeps the business afloat. Selling land, machinery, livestock. I implore you to search the hours farmers work against their take home. I agree there is an issue around individuals taking advantage of the tax relief. Those buying agricultural land as means of a tax dodge with no intention of farming it themselves needs addressing. Whether we can do that without impacting the family farms is yet to be seen. But what comes of the land sold off? At a time when we are championing buying local produce and sustainability, we need our family farms. They’re a key component to food security and meeting our country’s carbon net zero goals. If the farm isn’t viable, it will close. Less farms, less food, more imports, less lovely carbon sinking pasture. So, support your local farmers. Take a closer look at all the regulatory hoops they jump through, all the hours they work, all the machinery that is older than the kids set to inherit the farm. The mental strain of the day to day is mind boggling. Whilst you do that, they’ll be producing high quality food, be busy searching down the back of the sofa for millions of pounds in change and trying to figure out when they might die. #BackBritishFarming #IHTrelief

Sometimes we can get stuck in the weeds and either forget or can’t see the value we bring to others. Everybody brings value in their own unique way. Sometimes we need a reminder to look at all we have achieved - big and small, and our contribution. ?? To remind yourself just how great you are: ?Take a few minutes every day to celebrate your wins big and small. ?Jot them down in a notebook or in a word document. ?Review them on a regular basis and see how far you’ve come. This is one of the big things I’ve learned from being coached - celebrating the wins big and small. So in case you need a reminder : You are amazing! Quick question ...If your ideal client was sitting across the table from you, could you tell them 3 things they could do to feel better? Of course you could!
