This rhetoric unfortunately doesn’t help anyone … On one hand it is painting Gen Z as lazy and entitled And on the other hand it also paints employers as out of touch trying to pass on their problems to others ? The fact is there are people who want to be apprentices, want to prove themselves and want to work hard, but they also want to work for a good employer, taught well, be respected and valued By making the workplace environment a point of difference in the marketplace, you can get the best out of your apprentices and other employees A generational divide will always be there … and this time is no different How each generation choose to look at those differences and gain perspective from one another will ultimately determine if they will get along ??♂? ?? It’s #NationalSkillsWeek, and we’re spotlighting how vocational learning can open new career paths while completing a VCE! ?? ?? ?? Meet Eliza Bowers, a VCE Vocational Major student from Ringwood Secondary College. Eliza is a budding bricklayer, undertaking a school-based construction apprenticeship. She spends her time between school, training and working on domestic building sites across Melbourne. 5 rapid-fire Qs with Eliza: 1. Why did you decide to do a construction apprenticeship? I love working with my hands. From a very young age, I always had a passion for the construction industry and found the process fascinating. 2. What is the best thing about learning to be a bricklayer? I have learned so many life skills from the trade, and it has built my resilience and confidence. I also love having the ability to pinpoint small imperfections in the wall and how this translates to everyday life. 3. What do you find the hardest thing about bricklaying? The labouring! For example, wheeling the wheelbarrow full of mortar or bricks. Your body does build up the strength you need over time, though. 4. Three words to describe a typical day? Rewarding, exhausting, fast. 5. What’s your favourite way to spend day off? Spending time with my friends, family and pets. It's #NationalApprenticeWeek, and today we're hearing from Andrew, overhead apprentice, who shares his advice to current and future apprentices. "Show up with a learning mindset. Go out of your way to do tasks you’re unfamiliar with, so you can practice your new skills."

Our housing company OX Place is committed to building communities as well as affordable new homes. This means creating social value through things like work and training opportunities on their developments. Adison is an apprentice site manager for LIFE Build, working on OX Place’s development of 12 new council homes in Princes Street and 14 shared ownership homes in Collins Street. In this video, he talks about what he’s learned and how his apprenticeship is helping open up opportunities for a future in the construction industry.

Day in the life of an Office Manager at RDS Fire and Security Ltd ? 06:15 ???? Arrive at the office. This isn't my usual start time but it's sometimes nice to get started while it's quiet. Morning rituals start with a check-in on emails & prioritising tasks for the day to ensure deadlines are met. ? 08:00 ???? The team starts to arrive. It's Wednesday so it's nice to have a midweek check into make sure everyone is on track with their weekly tasks and ready for the day ahead. ? 09:15 ???? Assist with a large delivery that arrived at the office. We have a couple of large projects about to begin! Follow our page for updates on these! ? 10:30 ???? Meeting with my fleet manager. We are in our next stage of growth with some new team members joining us very soon, so it was a perfect opportunity to make sure everyone is on the same page with the plan for new vehicles. ? 11:30 ???? There's a board meeting at the office today so I join our directors to provide updates on areas in the business that I am responsible for. ? 14:30 ???? A call with our local college to discuss apprenticeships. We are currently interviewing and finalising our 2024 intake of apprentices! Keep an eye out on our page for updates on vacancies! ? 15:00 ???? Finishing off typing up amendments to one of our processes. Every Monday the admin team meets, and off the back of this weeks meeting we had come up with ideas on how we can improve one of our processes. The changes were approved and the amended process is now officially live! Always good to look for ways to improve the process to give our clients the best possible service! ? 15:45 ???? As my working day comes to an end I like to take a final look over my TO-DO list, and start preparing bits for tomorrow. ? 16:00 ???? That's a wrap!
