The study, involving 118 adolescents of color and their mothers, highlights the need for holistic mental health interventions that consider both racial discrimination and other forms of violence like harsh parenting and teen dating violence. The research points to the importance of integrating these factors to effectively support the unique needs of these adolescents, advocating for a broader assessment in research and clinical practices.? When it comes to seeking mental health services, black children and teens are more likely to receive it in schools than in outpatient programs. The main problem however is that schools in predominately black neighborhoods are less likely to have mental health services available in comparison to schools in predominately white neighborhoods. Nearly 81% of all mental health professionals in the United States are White, with Hispanic providers making up just 9% and only 7% of all mental health professionals Black. Minority communities often face disparities in access to mental health care and quality of treatment, which is why it is important to increase representation so that underserved populations have access to professionals who understand their experiences and can provide culturally appropriate care.
